Dear Loft for Worders
I would like to let you all know that I am doing a marathon distance 42 km charity walk on the 18th May in aid of Pancreatic Cancer UK. The walk should take 10 – 12 hours.
I have been inspired to take this on through my friend Mark (LfW poster Kingshill) but also for my own personal reasons. A link to the just giving page is below. It would wonderful if you could donate a few pounds:

But before you do that please read on for a little bit of background:
Mark’s story:
Mark and Joyce were married for 30 years, they have two children aged 24 & 26, Joyce was 54 last birthday. Five months ago Joyce died of Pancreatic Cancer having under gone two rounds of chemo and two remissions.
My Story:
Irene and Bert (my mum and dad obvs!!) were married for 26 years, they had three children, just after her 48 birthday Irene was diagnosed with Pancreatic Cancer. She died 10 months later. That was 1984. There was no treatment for Pancreatic cancer at that time. I was 17. Forty years later this still pains me.
It’s unacceptable that more than half of people diagnosed with pancreatic cancer die within 3 months. Survival rates have improved enormously for most cancers, yet for pancreatic cancer, this is not the case.
Pancreatic Cancer UK is dedicated to taking on this injustice using every possible means. They're supporting people with pancreatic cancer now, campaigning, and funding vital research to transform the future. Help them to make the breakthroughs that people with pancreatic cancer so desperately need.

Finally, just to make the 42km a little more challenging some of you will know that I have had a foot injury for the last few years that has left me with constant pain. Therefore, I have thought very hard whether I will be able to do this. But WTF, I can always hop. |

As it turns out I am am with Admiral and they have a multi car policy. I was able to set daughter up with her own policy and NCB for just over £2k. Still a huge amount. As mentioned above I did look at insuring in my name and having her as named driver. This was more expensive as my NCB is allocated to my own car. Nuts!
Anyway thanks for the advice. I may not have got the absolute best deal but I think it's ok all things considered. I just need her to leave uni and get a job so she can pay it herself😯

My 20 year old daughter passed her driving test today. She has already bought a 1.2 ltr Fiesta. Value about £1000
Now she has a full license she can insure the car in her name. Got a first quote via moneysupermarket. Only gave one quote for £7500!!! Got a second quote from Gogirl who specialise in female drivers for £14k. Any bright ideas? |

Several comments on this thread is relation to police resources. Yesterday at 6.00pm I came out of Finsbury Park tube station, there were 18 uniformed officers, 2 plain clothes officers and 4 London transport sucurirty staff carrying out ticket checks. Only one officer was doing anything the rest were stood around chatting. I'm all for catching fare dodgers but over 20 officers in attendance is ridiculous especially in light of my earlier issues mentioned. |

The car did have a tracker but once the car is unlocked electronically by a scanning your key they can deactivate it before driving away. Your right in that physical deterrents are they only ones that work i.e steering locks, faraday bags for the keys or parking posts if you have a drive.
The car companies can do more though. My phone has more security than my car i.e finger print and facial recognition as well as two factor authentication. All of which could be added to a car to stop the thing being started. You can also add you own air tag. All of which I found out afterwards😞😞
This was no random theft. This is planned and organised. These cars are shipped out of the country with in hours. This is organised crime on a massive scale. I put this on my neighbourhood Facebook site where at least a dozen other people said they had car stolen over the last 12 months or so. |

A week ago I had a new car stolen. I only had it two weeks. I went outside in the morning to see it was gone. Dialed 999 but told it wasn't an emergency and I should dial 101. It was a 50 grand car so it was an emergency to me.
Anyway, made the report and got the crime number. This was at 7.30. At 10.30 I get a call from the Met telling me as there were no leads then the case was closed. They didn't send anyone round or even check CCTV ect. Car crime is clearly no longer classified as an important crime. These gangs are taking one car a week that's £2.5 m p.a. When does that actually become a material crime. I'm sure if I stole £2.5m from a security van they would show some interest. [Post edited 27 Sep 2023 22:18]

In another thread the topic has turned to what players the development team has produced suitable for the first team.
This has been an argument since Warburton and one of the mitigation points Ferdinand offered was that (around) eight players had been whisked away by Premier League/ Cat A teams.
Does anyone know who any of these players are which teams they went to and most importantly what are they doing now? Have we really missed out on eight super stars or have they all drifted away to lower leagues or sat in U23 teams?

I did the test at the London podiatry centre. The test and subsequent analysis seemed very comprehensive. The test was £80. They have suggested custom insoles will fix some issues but other issues will need to have physio / Pilates. The insoles range from over the counter one for £20 / £30 up to £300 for bespoke long life inserts ( they suggest these would last up to 10 years).
As others have said physio / Pilates can be a bit hit and miss. They have suggested a specialist foot / gait physio. A quick Google search looks ok.
As per my OP comes down to how much money I want to spend but just trying to guage if this is smoke and mirrors as some have suggested or really beneficial as others have said. |
