I'd guess that it will depend where Hayden wants to play. I doubt anyone else will give him 50k, but if we offer 10k on a 2 year deal, it leaves Newcastle to pay off 40k. Someone may offer 20k, leaving Newcastle to pay 30k, but if he doesn't want to go there, Newcastle may not have much choice, but only guessing. |

I played against him when he was 17 at Old Meadonians, we were joint top with them and playing each other last game of the season to decide the title and he scored the only goal, he was super player, real raw talent then, but none of the bravado you see from a lot of others. He's done so well, good luck to him, top fella. |
| Forum Reply | Next season - 4 key players for us to keep at 14:23 23 Apr 2024
We all get drawn on the cash in or roll the dice debate, but ultimately for a club to be financially sound they need to be successful, to be successful you need decent players. So for me it all centres around a players form, age and years on contract. If they have been ok this year, when its been bad, with Marti from the off next season, they should all be better, leading to their market values increasing...if they're under 30 and still have 2 years on contract. Any less and they depreciate rapidly. This season has been so bad, but some players have done ok, e.g. JCS, Chair, Dunne, Willock. Therefore, based on the point above, I'd offer them all contract extensions that take them up to 4 years. If they sign happy days, as we need good players, if they won't sign, we sell them with 2 years left on contract to get maximum value regardless of form. The idea that this summer we cash in on JCS because he stayed fit, but he won't next year seems illogical, he was fit this year, so can be next year. If they're 30+, they get a maximum 2 years as they have no resale value, so you always let it run to zero, if they're fit and doing well, extend it for another 1 or 2 years. This might not be exactly right, but if the club adopt this sort of fixed model, it takes the emotion out of it, and fans can stop concerning themselves with having to choose between income and success and instead just focus on wanting the best possible players on the pitch, and being successful. |
| Forum Reply | FA Cup Replays Scrapped at 14:35 18 Apr 2024
Premier League ruined the FA Cup, such a shame, I remember watching all 6 hours of build up to the Coventry v Spurs final for example, helicopters over the buses on the way to Wembley, what the Cov kit man had for breakfast, watched it all. There were the 3 replays between Leeds and Arsenal in the early 90's as both wanted it so badly. Now I don't know what channel its on, totally agree with Antti that TV games should not be all Premiership until 5th round. |
| Forum Reply | Begovic at 18:34 16 Apr 2024
I think you're missing the point, I'm not easily triggered, far from it, but as someone else said if he went along and quietly enjoyed the game, that's fine, no problem, but to post about it on social and reference 'we', that's not acceptable, its disloyal and shows he has no respect for the club he plays for and pays his wages...or the fans. |
| Forum Reply | Begovic at 14:06 16 Apr 2024
Totally agree, its a disgrace, remember Lee Clark doing similar, Begovic is our captain and we're in a battle, yet he's there cheering them on. If we go down by less than 2 points its on him for the flap (I wonder if he has an issue with his eyesight under floodlights, but not the point here) If I was Marti I would drop him for it, it would send a strong message about the club. |

I’m not naïve, I get the importance, as I said it’s clearly the best opportunity to get the points we need, but we’re not dead if we don’t. I’ll be gutted if we don’t. I just don’t agree with the view that we’re dead if we don’t. Coventry lost 3-0 to Birmingham Saturday and Birmingham are shit |

I don't get the insistence that the next game is always a must win or doom scenario, its not, and its not for every other team either. Blackburn got hammered by Bristol City on Wednesday and beat Leeds on Sunday, who saw that coming? We need 3 points from 3 games IMO, without doubt Saturday looks like the best opportunity to get them, but if we don't, then we need to get 3 points from 2 games. Lets not forget last season we beat Burnley to stay up. |
| Forum Reply | Armstrong New Contract ? at 14:15 9 Apr 2024
I think Armstrong could prov to eb really good, or at least very effective, but I find him really frustrating now. I don't agree the service/support is the reason, as he only operates in sprint mode, so the ball is always getting away from him and his final ball is often poor, so teammates will question whether to bust their balls to get up there with him when he's often wasting possession, not finding them when they do get there. He also seeks contact with defenders when he doesn't need to, which always go against him with refs and breaks up play. I wish he'd slow down, focus on his composure and just relax. But ultimately he's only 20, should have been a bit part or on loan in league 1, but we've needed him, he's done ok, but has a lot of potential, so think we all should continue to support him and hope the experience of this season will do him good. |
| Forum Reply | Friday - Birmingham, Dozzell, 3 points at 14:02 28 Mar 2024
3 months ago, the idea we could choose to leave out Colback or Field out was crazy, but shows how much better things are now. I have a preference, but it doesn't matter, as unlike GA and the others that came before MC, he doesn't seem to have his blind favourites, who play regardless of form, so whoever he chooses, I'm happy with that. I do think he'll go Frey up top, as they'll sit deep which is no good for Armstrong, so I'm expecting another WBA type performance from Frey. |
| Forum Reply | Gob Brummin is a comin - a QPR match thread at 13:56 28 Mar 2024
I think Rowett coming in will be good for us, will ensure we aren't complacent and he will be so focussed on making them hard to beat, that they'll offer little threat, therefore we go at them from the off, get the place rocking like WBA and get an early goal which should be priceless and break their spirit...2-0 Rangers |

Birmingham in terrible form and Blackburn dropping like a stone....would be one hell of an effort by Eustace to take 2 teams down this season. |
| Forum Reply | Beale sacked at 14:25 19 Feb 2024
Was chatting to a Sunderland season ticket holder, apparently the fans loved Mowbray, but also all knew what Beale did to us, and don’t like it, so was off to a bad start, he then started turning on the fans after just a few games. Great to see him get fired again. |
| Forum Reply | We Live to Fight Again at 17:27 28 Jan 2024
Brian is surely right, we do live to fight again, but if we’d lost it would be hard to see a way back. Personally, I doubt we’d have scored that goal if we hadn’t gone behind, as it came from the increased intensity and urgency in response to going behind, but who knows. We were very poor, but I think they looked generally rubbish and think they’ll lose to Sheff Wed and probably go down. How we respond now with suspensions and injuries, who knows, need a big improvement, but still in touch. |
| Forum Reply | The Manager at 17:09 28 Jan 2024
Of all our problems, this manager isn’t one of them, the stats don’t support it and neither do the eyes of anyone who has any understanding of what we’re watching. |
