I went to this place a couple of years back and they do have some photos etc of the local area. At the time you could just turn up but it looks like you need to book an appointment now so best check if they have what you are looking for.

I moved here after more than 25 years of visiting friends etc around Redruth. I couldn't be happier here. I have made more friends in 4 months than I ever made in London in over 40 years.

I have seen the winters as well as the summer so knew what to expect. I feel very safe, have the sea a few miles away, and people are welcoming. I think the best way to be with the locals is to let them get on with their lives, don't try to change them, be friendly and then everyone is happy. There is a much bigger sense of community in Cornwall that's for sure.

Obviously the place has it's problems, but it's far less than in London for certain.

I have friends that would never move here and I fully understand why and that's great. It's not the life for many people, but for some, it's perfect. I understand the thing about never being able to move back to London once you have left it and that is just fine by me, each to their own and all that.

I was in St Ives a couple of days ago. The beaches around here (Porthtowan, Portreath etc) are just a few miles away. I don't drive either so walk or buses. It can take a bit of planning but it is well worth it. The shops here shut around 5 or 6 and on Sunday just a couple open at all. It's like it used to be in London all those years ago and I like that.

So far as locals go, I seem to have fitted in just fine, but I do know what you are going on about regarding being an outsider. I think it helps if you just let them get on with it and slowly they realise you are ok even though you will never be one of them.

Twitter is for tw*ts

Like in life you get morons on Twitter like you do on message boards etc. The opposite is also true. There are many decent people so it is possible if you want to avoid the idiots.

Like with everything in life if Twitter isn't for you then you don't need to go on there.
