Moss, Sherring and Wilson is all we're left with currently in the central defensive positions. Maguire might be available for selection soon but its only a matter of time before he's on the treatment table again. Beckwith is a quality player but another one with a tendency to get injured.
We are going to find ourselves cut adrift if we keep on this path, but that being said, if the board have any interest in keeping Watson then they need to allow him to bring in an experienced free agent central defender to replace EEL next week. Someone who can hold his own at this level and has a history of staying fit over the course of a season. I'm not confident that Watson will be able to find the right candidate, but its quite obvious Wilson is miles away from being ready for this level. Sherring simply not good enough. |

Agree with what your saying. You see quite quickly how much quicker the game is and how much physically stronger the [opposition] players are at this level. No hiding places and blooding an academy product in the National League is a totally different proposition to doing it in L2. Maybe its premature to write Wilson off after one game but he looked too raw and well short of the level to me. We urgently need to recruit another competent defender with experience at this level, but he will need to be better than Sherring. |

Wilson looks nowhere near ready for mens football at this level. Was an absolute calamity in the second half. No instinct to defend. Looks a very poor signing indeed to me. |

Lots of things wrong; not least the keeper who is a worry for me. His shot stopping looks good as you'd expect with his pedigree, but the total package isn't there. He looks uncertain coming off his line and an accident waiting to happen with the ball at his feat. He's not giving his defenders any confidence either. He was definitely targeted today with balls coming into the box. |

I'll be happy enough to be proven wrong but he'll be 34 in December and I'm not sure the tactics we've seen in pre-season are really going to do him any favours. |

Although I've selected him, Ebanks -Landell is a concern for me in this formation/style of play. I'm not sure he's going to have the pace/mobility to cope in this higher grade. Three centre halves affords him an extra level of protection that he wont have here. |

In an ideal world I'd like to see us picking up a central striker with an eye for goal and a bit of pace. Not easy to acquire at this level I concede, but it does feel like we're lacking that type of striker ATM. |

We need two keepers really, so maybe the two who played last night were auditioning for the backup keeper role ? I'd hope we have something better lined up for the starting goalkeeper. |

With the exception of Centre Midfield, the squad looks very thin at present. Feels like we're well behind our rivals. Quite concerning to me despite the inevitable calls for patience. |

I'm really hoping we're in for Reece Smith who was with Harrogate last season and is apparently moving on. I've seen a fair bit of him playing for my local team Maidenhead, alongside Casey Pettit and Sam Beckwith. I think he'd be a great signing. |

My guess is that this was all done and dusted last week once Stockport lost to Bolton. You get the impression that the Ogdens arent going to stand in the way of Jim moving up the leagues. They might even have encouraged it.
Presumably its just a question of us finding a replacement and then it will all get announced together. Hopefully Lillis, Taylor and Done are staying in some form as they've obviously made a positive contribution since arriving. Maybe more than we think. And hopefully Jim isnt taking Kyran Gordon to Stockport with him. |

Thinking about the last time we were in the Football League and the feeling that the majority of the squad seemed unrelatable and generally disconnected with the fans, and the club in general. I'd be offering terms to Gordon, Tutonda, Allarakhia, Pritchard, Barlow, Burger, McBride, Smith & Henderson. All have ability and have shown themselves to be good characters from what I can see. Lets keep this squad culture in-tact. Maybe Henderson can have some involvement with the Academy alongside a reduced playing role now that it will presumably be 're-launched' with EFL funding ? Assuming he has the interest. I assume Edwards is going elsewhere of his own accord. He'd be a keep too based on the potential shown. |

I was wondering if the Ogden family were present at Wembley. Dont recall seeing them on any of the photographs. Understand they like to keep a relatively low profile. Would be a bit of a shame if they weren't given their contribution. |
