Agree that it was not one of his better performances last night. However I thought that was largely down to the very good marking job Furlong did on him. Seemed to follow Ilias even when he dropped deep and is very hard to beat in one-on-one situations. He's a strong, fast and intelligent defender and probably one of the toughest opponents Ilias will face in the Championship.
I'd love to still have him in our team and that goal-line clearance, as mentioned elsewhere, was outstanding. He even managed it without using his hand!
Thanks Clive. A very enjoyable read on what sounds a top-class performance.
Loved the line "Leicestershire’s premier wedding venue Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall".
Well done to all the fans who travelled and provided such terrific support. So glad they were rewarded with the right result. Hopefully it will boost the team's morale for the closing stages of the season. With everything now so tight at the bottom of the table, we are in for a thrilling finish to the relegation battle. Let's hope we end up on the right side of the line.
Noticed Marti shouting at Begovic at one point to move the ball quicker. Also with Dunne so good in the air we should have used the option more often of him as a target man advanced on the right to win a few flick ons. Hodge or Hayden needed to cover for him though.
If that worked a few times, I'm sure Rotherham would have abandoned their high pressing game which caused us such problems.
Thanks Simon. A lovely tribute to a wonderful footballer - my all-time favourite player
I count myself so lucky to have seen him play at QPR over seven glorious years.
Among my treasured possessions are a framed signed shirt of his and a signed copy of his very entertaining autobiography. I also met him on several occasions, including when I worked at White City greyhound track on the Tote during 1978-79. Always friendly with a great sense of humour and that wonderful glint in his eye.
He will be hugely missed. Condolences to all his family and friends. RIP Stan.
As you imply it seems all set up as a banana skin for us. The bookies seem to think so too with Stoke currently 2.26 for the win, compared to our 3.6, on the Betfair Exchange.
Good luck to all R's travelling tonight and I hope you are rewarded with a win.
Agree with you on Sinclair. Loads of scope for improvement but I love that he is so positive. Every time he gets the ball in the opposition half I’m on the edge of my seat because you know he will be heading for goal not passing safely backwards.
I'm sure you stepping up eased the pressure on Clive's sanity as well. I'd fear for him having to do a report on that performance on top of the cumulative effect of the most of the other matches this season.
A further question on the Bond as I've got my training ground visit arranged for next Thursday. Has anyone on here been already? How was it, and is there any chance of seeing the lesser-spotted Richards?
It's a long time ago but think I always wore Puma except for several years in my mid-teens during the 70's when it had to be Gola because Stan wore them!
Along with the rest of my football (and Subbuteo) gear, boots were bought from Ron Springett's sports shop on the Uxbridge Rd.
It's a measure of his greatness that he was known by his initials. Fantastic player and person who had a long career as an orthoepedic surgeon and basically played rugby for fun.
Was part of the greatest ever RU try with the tackle on him a certain red card nowadays. RIP JPR.
Loved the line on the ref's performance, 'Certainly a better performance than Joey Barton ever produced on this pitch'. Spot on!
Must admit I didn't like Marti calling out Sinclair, our best player on the day, for the first goal as it was a well-worked corner and other players far more at fault for the goals conceded. I hope it doesn't backfire on him.
