Pubs in Ealing
at 18:18 14 Mar 2024

Second the King's Arms, as it's within your 5 minute walk radius from EB station. The Wheatsheaf is lovely too.
South Ealing is road is still blessed with many glorious pubs - if you decide to hop on the 65 bus right outside the station you're spoilt for choice: Red Lion, Castle Inn, New Inn (refurbished recently, a bit gastro now) and my personal favourite the Rose & Crown, tucked away behing St Mary's church, but conveniently only a minute from where the bus stops outside the church,

Half decent tv
at 17:15 22 Feb 2024

This was one of the most poorly written pieces of TV I've seen in my entire life. I stuck with it till the end as it was only a limited series, and I had some kind of twisted loyalty to the the previous seasons - Season One remains as one of the best shows ever made. But boy oh boy, by episode 6 it was clear that whoever penned this openly misandrist garbage was a hack of the highest order. Even the show's creator posted negatively regarding it on his Instagram (which he later had to delete of course) - and had to continually distance himself from it once he saw how bad it was.
But don't you dare have a negative opinion about it online, or your criticism will be treated like 'Hitlerian evil that must be stamped out' (an actual real life quote)

1. "People are being dragged from their homes and being arrested for posting ojline [sic] against the genocide the UK is helping commit right now."
Are they? Can you provide any credible sources proving this?

2. "You can get police at your door for having the Palestinian flag out your windows."
Again, I doubt this very much. I see Palestinian flags everywhere and haven't seen much police activity trying to take them down or knocking on people's doors.

3. "A wealthy white conservative moaning about freedom is a joke."
What does him being white have anything to do with it? Would it make a difference to you if it was a black conservative?

4. "If you wanna prove you're free speech stop being a coward and call out genocide."
He's not talking about the conflict in the Middle East - why would he mention an alleged genocide in a piece about Premier League clubs monitoring their own fans Social Media activity Big Brother style?

5. "colonisers"
Do grow up - another racially motivated reference in the same paragraph. The people you're referring to (I don't need to spell it out) haven’t colonised anything for centuries as the colonial age is very much over. It’s comparable to calling a black person a slave.

I don't think it's sinister - it's all motivated by profit imho.

That's why companies like Disney for example will preach diversity and inclusivity in western markets, as it's the current day thing to do - while simultaneously editing and censoring their OWN material for the Middle Eastern and Chinese markets that are far less tolerant. They chase profits. If that means removing a homosexual kiss for the Saudi market, or covering up a black person's face on a poster for the Chinese market they'll do it without hesitation because that is what will lead to the biggest profits in those regions. Nothing sinister, just corporate greed and hypocrisy.

Let me preface this by saying I don't have any issue with pundits regardless of their sex, as long as they're GOOD and have earned their position based on MERIT. What I do have a problem with is a corporation shoeing in female pundits simply to hit their diversity quotas - I work for one, and have been privy to start-up meetings in which this has been hammered home as a requisite.

Sky is owned by the US company Comcast, and like all companies Comcast is a machine - a machine designed to turn resources into money. It has no morals, it has a massive legal department to make sure it doesn't break any laws while making that money, a PR department to make make sure they have the most profitable public image towards their designated target audience and their publicity department which sells their products.

Think about an industrial wood chipper: it doesn't care if you throw in a log, a dining table or a person - it will turn it all into pulp, it just depends on the person feeding it stuff to make sure you only toss logs in there. The same is true about companies like Comcast/Sky. In the larger scheme of things, companies are amoral entities which are kept in line by laws, public image and profits; breaking the law would mean fines and seizures which would lower said profits, a bad public image would mean less people willing to buy from them, and bad publicity means that their products would be less visible in the market.

If you think Sky, or indeed any other broadcaster, truly cares about more female representation in football punditry you are mistaken. They would happily stick with ex-players (some of whom are truly awful pundits) if they could, but in the wake of the metoo movement (and BLM also) public image dictated that the most profitable path at this moment according to their PR department is to inject as much female pundits as quickly as possible to hit those DEI quotas.

Joey Barton, however, is still a massive cnt.

Dog owners.
at 15:19 15 Sep 2023

Interesting thing happened today. About a month ago a guy working for a private pest control company was about to get into his van when the dog from one of our neighbours (a pit-bull looking beast they keep to 'guard' their house that went ballistic every time I walked my dog past their house) escaped from their front door and bit him on the leg. The neighbour simply said sorry to the poor chap and carried on with his day as if nothing had happened. My Mrs witnessed the whole thing and went over to check on the guy to make sure he was ok, luckily he wasn't too badly hurt and he reported the incident. She also reported it as that could've easily been someone's kid but nothing happened straight away - a follow up phone call but nothing concrete...
Low and behold, today she gets a call saying the police will be investigating this as a priority. Coincidence? I think not with today's events.

Why does it take a tragedy for something to be done about these dangerous dog owners? Yes, some breeds are susceptible to be more aggressive and problematic than others, but ultimately the problems lies with the ease with which people can procure and breed these dogs and then not properly train or socialise them.

Ukrainian champion fencer
at 09:02 28 Jul 2023

Harsh, but the rules are pretty clear: "In fencing, shaking hands is part of the rules of the sport and refusal to do so results in a black card and expulsion."

The Russian took advantage of this, and I don't blame her. Unless they change the rules the Ukrainian athletes should abide by them - they choose to compete in a competition in which these Russian/Belorussian athletes (under a neutral flag) also compete. It's a difficult one for sure - but a stronger message would've been for her to boycott the tournament or refuse to play her at all. Agreeing to play automatically means you have consented to abide by the set rules.

Fakes possibly in big trouble
at 15:51 14 Jun 2023

In the space of 12 months he's gone from being interviewed for the Burnley job (apparently it was between him, Rooney and Kompany), to being linked with Reading's sloppy seconds in League 1. Something definitely off with him, seems his stint at Sheffield Utd might have been where he peaked and overachieved.

I know his last two appointments haven't exactly been great but Wilder's stock must have fallen dramatically for him to be considering that job or am I missing something?
