Wasn't having a pop at you, just responding to the point that Matt made. Why the reaction to the WLS article, because they've been around a long time and the fans trust them.

I think it's one of the things we should be proud of as a club with writing like Clive's and AKUTR's. As you point out, it allows people to keep connected to the club wherever they are and in whatever circumstances.

The article is about why the negativity towards the leadership, so I'm explaining why some people, like myself, can be negative about the leadership.

There are some positives but it's hard to get excited about it when we're still being run by people who you can't trust. Some of the examples I put show a pattern of getting obvious things wrong and having to be told which makes me question their competence.

It's a bit like the playoff final, walking down the steps at Wembley after celebrating the win my dad mentioned HR and I wanted him to be sacked before the start of next season. Short term wins shouldn't cloud the longer term picture and I don't the people running the day to day are competent.

In response to Matt's article, I had a few thoughts of my own.

The Transparency Myth

Injuries and contracts – It took the uproar to get them too loosen this up, their instinct was that they could get away with telling us nothing and it backfired. Kind of suggests they have a bad read of the situation they are in.

Martí on gardening leave – He was a popular manager and an asset that we paid to leave, could have been handled better after the last game of the season, again poor reading of the situation I would say.

This week’s uproar about Furlong – See Clive’s point about not needing to settle people leaving amicably.

Why My View Has Changed — And Why I Back the Leadership

“I see genuine progress, genuine competence, and genuine strategy.” I find it hard to agree that there is competence given the above.

For years, fans have said:

· “We need a club model that isn’t dependent on the manager.”

· “We need clarity about who’s actually responsible for decisions.”

· “We need to modernise our operations.”

“Well, now we finally have exactly that”. – We don’t, what do all these new head of whatever do? What does Ben Williams do? nobody knows.
We already had a DoF role, the issue wasn’t the structure so much as the owner interference as far as I could work out.

The Evidence: Tangible, Measurable Progress

Criticism thrives in the absence of information. So let’s focus on what we do know, using actual data and on-pitch evidence.

1. The Managerial Decision: Replacing Martí Was Spot On

“Stephan is a clear upgrade on Martí” He’s different but you’re not going to get a fair comparison when you compare his performance this season with actual strikers to choose from against last seasons squad.

2. Talent Acquisition: A Recruitment Structure That Actually Works

In the last two years, recruitment has transformed. The structure, the process, the profiles, all of it.

“The squad is more balanced than at any point in the last decade.” – Again it took having a very unbalanced squad last season to get to that realisation you can’t just keep buying 10’s. Learning on the job and we’re still short in some areas.

“The club is smarter, leaner, and far more strategic than during the Ferdinand era.” – There seems to be less interference from above. Not sure I’d say repeatedly telling players they’re free to leave then needing to rely on them is massively strategic.

“In two years, Nourry has achieved more with less.” – I’m not sure he does have less, some expensive seasons rolled out of our FFP window for Marti’s second season and we spent money on several players but ended up with the most unbalanced squad I can remember then this summer the Eze money. Why is this being framed as doing more with less?

3. Youth Structure: Real Progress, Real Results

Too early to tell, we’ve signed some exciting 18yo prospects that should be able to come through into the first team after some time in the development squad. But we did that with Eze, Manning, BOS, Walsh, Kelman, Lloyd previously with varying results, so not new.

4. Operational Decisions: Small Things That Make a Big Difference

Small things like how we treat our staff and players, sacking managers and coaches that are popular, telling players they can leave when we still need them, all bound to have more of an effect than who’s sat in the School end.

The Owners: Still Investing, Still Writing Off Losses

“People love to assume the owners are inactive or detached. Yet they continue to write off losses and keep the club afloat while moving us toward becoming as self-sufficient as possible. That matters. It’s real commitment, not PR.” – Not doubting the owners financial commitment, but they can still be hands off day to day, which is a concern if the people in charge start to put their own interests above those of the club.

So Why the Relentless Negativity?

Personally, I put a lot of trust in what Clive writes and Dave Mc because they've been around for a long time and I'm fairly sure Clive has the best interests of the club as his main concern. So if they're telling me something, I'll take it seriously and if I don't like what they tell me, I'll probably react.

Is that so strange? Should I be waiting around for an official club response which will obviously be designed to make light of anything bad for the club just for balance?

I imagine it was similar to the start of Hot Fuzz "You've Been Making Us All Look Bad". Going around winning things, doesn't he know this is a project?

Being pedantic but I thought the compensation we received was basically getting most of the money we'd already paid him to leave back, rather than a "win" as Sam put it.

On a separate note, I like having people around the place who know the club, respect our history and show loyalty to us. I think we do better generally when we have people like that around the place because they make an effort and get the best out of other players. I don't think it's a coincidence that having those kind of characters around the place (Gallen,Bircham,Cook) causes other players (like Furlong and Ainsworth) who they played with to become supporters of the club as well. Not sure I'm happy with people like that being removed from the club on the whim of a group of people who'd probably walk away as soon as a better offer came calling, without a second thought for QPR.

EV’s to lose congestion charge exemption

Just EVs on weight or all vehicles?

I drive an EV and it weighs less than a range rover, so should they pay more. What about Vans and Lorry's they're much heavier so should they pay proportionally?

So we're both convinced it won't be a piece of skill that separates the sides.

My money's on a goal off someone's backside, I just hope it falls out way.

Feels like a scruffy goal either way is going to determine the outcome.

Worst Comedian

I think the latest James Acaster show Hecklers Welcome plays on that a bit. His routines are well put together and don't have a lot of crowd work so hecklers would ruin the rhythm and spoil the routine, so he came up with a show that addresses that. Worth a watch.

I think all comedians have died on stage or tried material that wasn't funny but I'd find it hard to say worst as it's likely someone I've forgotten existed or never seen.

Possession, nine-tenths of the problem? – Analysis
at 17:21 13 Oct 2025

The data presented suggests that we went back to the game model for the last 15 games under Marti and started this season similarly trying to control possession.

I too don't mind us changing the game model, lessons learned etc but it needs to fare better than 18 months next time.

Is 18 months a long time now then? I thought the idea of having a game model was that we were consistent over a long period of time, not changing it more frequently than our manager.

I think it was just the wrong strategy to begin with, as he says in that archived interview, the strategy was set “by looking at the last 10 years of the Championship and what won you points" so we're already looking to the past to predict the future. Doesn't seem to be a lot on nuance about the limitations we have compared to the teams with bigger budgets who can buy players to play whatever system they want. To me it seems poorly conceived from the beginning.

If we move away from that now and decide on a new strategy then I'm all for it, especially if the first team results keep going the way they are. But we can't change it again in another 18 months it would defeat the object and be a massive failure of planning on the clubs part.

Tend to agree with this, we've seen pragmatism last season when we needed results but eventually it trended back towards the game model. Hopefully this season we'll stick to what's working. Certainly been impressed with JS since the Coventry game, we got to see the coach that we thought we were getting at the start of the season.

As with Nourry, he seems to have learnt in areas like transfers and adapted which for me is a massive positive because the adaptability is a transferable trait to all areas of his role which is really positive.

Players With Wobbly Starts

Similar time to Helguson but I think Clint Hill had a slow start at LB but really came into his own when he moved to CB.

Shittu started poorly with a red card in his second game I think but bounced back pretty quickly.

That should be interesting, hope Mbengue can avoid getting booked today, strikes me as someone who could smash out a 3 game week physically.

I don't think that's entirely true, he had an injury record before he joined us and a reputation for not being often available. He then spent most of his first season with us unavailable, I don't think it's hindsight to say it was risky to extend a contract that still had 2 years to run off the back of a breakout season which included around 30 games in a season, so about 75% availability.

The issue with JCS is he's a quality defender, so it's a risk with high potential rewards but with each injury and setback it seems an even longer shot of paying off. I hope he manages to get fit but you have to wonder if it's taken it's till mentally, especially if he's feeling discomfort when scans say there's nothing wrong.

Looked like he had much more fight in him than I've seen before which makes the world of difference at this level. Made some good challenges and won the ball back, worked hard for the team as well as passing the ball well as well know he can. Very pleasing to see.

I thought he was out of control and he did catch him, at that point it's a gamble whether the ref decides on a red or yellow normally, so was surprised at no booking at all but won't argue.

Assume the fact he gave a free kick means they can't do any retrospective action?

Sky replay showed Burrell caught him but his studs were down so it was just laces around the chops. Don't think he intended to do that, to me it just looked like he backed his pace to get there first.
