The first match atThe Dell my dad took me to was v Plymouth on Good Friday in 1977. It kicked off at 11.30am because the next match was the following day at 3pm followed by bank holiday Monday match two days later - that’s 3 matches in 4 days if my memory is correct! |

I only remember the jam from my childhood and never the aspirin! However, you are right but at the end of his stint, despite amassing a fantastic team, we still hadn't won anything so he wasn't quite the magician we thought he would be? |

yes, very sad. I remember being at school when the news broke he had signed for us - we were euphoric it was like we had suddenly become invincible. Not only that, the look of utter envy on the faces of Man U supporters made it a double whammy of joy. It would be like signing Mbappe or Dembele today. Fabulous memories! |

We all know that Tonda is an oasis of natural talent and intellect in our managerial desert. The tragedy is that the exceptional talent and intellect he has, also lacked honour and integrity in equal measure - a battle that humans through history, especially Saints fans at the moment, struggle to resolve. |

we now need to:-
1. convince fans to buy season tickets for the coming season
2. convince our best players to stick with us
3. convince new talent to join
4. convince sponsors and advertisers that we're good value
5. convince new staff to work for us
Can all this be achieved with Tonda remaining? I've not heard anything from the club or Tonda himself that addresses the above |

the reason I ask is that the wider photo I've seen of Will Salt behind the pine tree has hawthorn hedge in flower to the left and the right of the picture. Hawthorn of course flowers in May which is why it's also known as May Tree. |

I’ve felt elation after winning FA cup in 1976, I’ve felt bereft being relegated in 2005 and everything else in between including embarrassment of back to back nine nil defeats but I’ve never felt shame supporting this club until now including the Bob Higgins outrage. Whatever happens with the appeal, it does seem harsh compared to Leeds etc but, through our own admission, we are serial cheats. The owners and management are failures and don’t deserve the awesome fanbase and heritage they are custodians of.
Senior management clearly understand the extent and context of the wrong doing so once the appeal is concluded, those responsible must be dispatched to make it clear to the world where we stand - honour, integrity and trust. |

our current team appears to be a picture made up from the remnants of four different jigsaw pictures:-
1)Ralph's high press that resulted in tiring us out before the opposition achieving most points lost from a winning position.
2)Jones' lump it up the park but by the time we got players who were ok with this in, he was out.
3) Selles' defensive obsession which resulted in conceding, not scoring and losing. Some say it was possessive but the only thing we kept hold of during his time was a relegation spot.
4) Wusty's possession which other than the first couple of games, seems to be about us giving possession to opponents.
I'm just wondering whether we could pull it all together and create a hybrid of playing defensively when the opposition have the ball in our half, press when they have it in their half, keep hold of the ball whilst going forward and then maybe lump it forward on occasions if playing through the opponent is difficult or to clear the ball from our penalty area when we're being pressed? in other words, mix it up a bit? Just a thought like....... |

......and not just young but very inexperienced too. Just watched Match of The Day and they showed the stats on our recruitment over the summer and January, apart from Maitland Niles with 87 matches in the PL, all the others (and there were a lot) including the managers had 0 match experience between them. |

Amidst all the gloom, doom and despondency, there are some positives from this season:-
1. We didn't concede 9 goals
2. or 8 goals, in fact, we didn't concede 7 but Man Utd did.
3. or 6 but Man Utd did.
4. We were one of ten sides not to concede more than 4 in a match. Forest, Bournemouth, Leicester, Leeds, Wolves, Brentford, Brighton, Spurs, West Ham, Man U. all have.
5. Our man JWP got closer to breaking Beckham's free kick goal record
6. SFC one of only three teams not to lose to Arsenal, City and Newcastle being the others.
7. Did the double on Chelsea and Leicester
8. Unlike the last time we were relegated, we haven't had United fans singing, "We'll be back to send you down...."
9. Unlike most relegated sides, we have a number of high value players we can build around next season or that can provide funds for a rebuild.
10. Despite all the angry, frustrated and cynical voices, we'll all still be Saints fans next season.
