Big admirer of Gab Sutton but think he's soiled the duvet on this one. He's trying to say that diving to win a penalty is on the same level as what Eckert was doing.
Diving for penalties is wrong, but it's a split-second decision in the heat of a game, and it's being monitored by someone charged to determine if it's a foul or not, in real time. In the Prem there's a bank of them to check the checker.
For the manager to put in place a systematic policy of cheating, it's just on another level. The manager sets the tone for the club - the ethos, the attitude, the standards. This is trying to get away with cheating without being seen, he's only sorry because he got caught.
Southampton's output on this has been absolutely disgusting - the FA shouldn't penalise the manager because you'll penalise the club! You should have sacked him! Institutionalised cheating gets you the bullet in any other walk of life. |

It's a nice idea, but surely we will just end up arguing over what 'clear daylight' is and we'll be back to checking whether a defender's fingernail on an outstretched hand is in line with any part of the forward's back leg, thus denying clear daylight, etc, etc |

Vale is always trying things. Not much went right for him on Wednesday but he didn't hide, he kept plugging away and showed the sort of mental bravery you'd want... we've all seen players make two or three duff passes, get some stick and go into their shell.
Stephan wants them to a bit more swashbuckling this year by the sounds of it, so this sort of attitude is required.
That said he'd have probably been pulled if we hadn't needed to get the cotton wool mob off en masse. |

Serious foul play is serious foul play wherever it happens on the pitch. A handball has different consequences depending on where it is... deliberate handball to score or prevent a goal is vastly different to a ball bouncing up onto someone's hand in midfield, and deserves different treatment IMO, including retrospectively. Not sure if the rules back up that view though. |

I like a bet, and Stoke have been a mild obsession of mine... it's not just that they are staggeringly average/below-average, it's that they have been consistently over-estimated... the spreadbet market for them over the last few years (you can sell at the lower number of points if you think they'll do worse, or buy at the higher price if you think they'll do better)...
18/19 – opening price 77-79, final total 55
19/20 – opening price 70-72, final total 56
20/21 – opening price 68.65-70.5, final total 60
21/22 – opening price 65.5.-67.5, final total 62
22/23 – opening price 65.5-67.5, final total 53
23/24 – opening price 64-66, final total 56
24/25 - opening price 65.5-67.5, final total 51
25/26 - opening price 57-59, final total 55
So you'd have made money going against them every season all the way back to 2018/19. This year again the opening price was 57-59.

Great work, thanks for the huge effort.
This from the Saints oppo view seems borderline delusional to me...

It's sort of right, but really it's only because the results have come in a different order to previous seasons. I've much preferred not sh1tting my pants every weekend for the last three months of the season, but we've still ended up more or less with the same outcome.
If I'm being generous, the positives are that for the first time in aeons we have two proper strikers, each with a Championship season (or part of one) under their belts. We have what could be a proper pairing at centre back as well. And Madsen is obviously a huge positive. Morgan hasn't gone forward but he's got useful minutes. There's something about Bennie, perhaps. Smyth has had the season of his career so far.
The negatives - we need a first choice keeper. We need a new left back. No cover at right back. The injury situation is farcical and has surely contributed to the goals against - you can't be organised defensively with different personnel every week. Varane has been frustrating and if money is offered I'd be taking it. Hayden has also been poor, we could do with a big hairy bloke to smash people about in midfield.
Sort out the keeper and full backs, a few old heads added, maybe Saito gets his mojo back, the kid from Coventry is able to play, all the good things stay good and all the bad things get better... |

It's not why any of us turn up but there's something in giving Adamson in particular a couple of cheap games at the end of the season - he immediately has some kind of resale value (assuming he's still under contract) that we can reinvest into some additional bag checkers in Ellerslie Road to form an even bigger human barrier to stop people getting into the ground. |

Thought he was done when his foot exploded against Preston. To get 100 games (and 5 goals) out of him over the course of three seasons is probably more than even he expected. Great signing, sad to see him go but seems to be the right decision for all parties. |
