On tbe penalties I think the ref got both decisions right. Yes the Swansea man made the most of it but Bree did get the wrong side of him on the cross and had to hold him back.
The main positive for me was that we didn’t fold after conceding. I put this down to two things. 1) the players stuck to their task much better than against Lincoln and weathered the storm when Swansea had the momentum 2) Tonda didnt “spreadsheet sub” Scienza and Larin on 60 mins. Both were having success against their defenders who were tiring. Lo and behold we got stronger as the second half went on. Their substitutions only happened once the game was won.
Schlotterbeck was immense last night both aerially and passing out. Wood just doesn’t have the skills or confidence to consistently play through a press (one exception was his pass to Bree for the second goal). I wonder if Abbot is the right option when we play teams who like to press- it’s certainly not Stephens.
I agree on the comments about Downes and no booking was a bonus. Proper Captains display. Finally what has happened to Peretz distribution? Every long clearance seem to go into touch last night. He needs to switch on or the calls to give Rambo a chance will grow louder. |

Apart from the financial aspect which we cannot know, from a footballing viewpoint I think you are looking at this to linear. Tonda has committed the the current roles as GK. So Long being the confirmed Number 2 doesn’t automatically mean he steps up to be Number One if Peretz is injured for a few games. There is different mind set to being a substitute GK knowing in all likelihood you are not going to play. Ramsdale is someone who expects to be a number one and doesn’t have the mindset to sit on the bench every week. If Peretz is injured Tonda could (and should!) promote Ramsdale to start games while keeping his commitment to Long to be the Number Two. |

Forgot to add, my weekend cheered up slightly when I saw that our ex manager is finding life in league one harder than he thought. I don’t expect it’s his fault though.
Also I’d like to see what sanction the EFL will apply to Portsmouth for the behaviour of their fans. By current precedent it should be an immediate relegation.

Very fair write up. Lincoln know they aren’t going to out play the better sides in this league so they play to their strengths. There are plenty of other sides that play a similar way so Tonda better figure out a way to counter this soon otherwise we will drop more points against teams we should beat. |

Firstly it is likely to be a signing looking at potential rather than being immediately ready to be first choice CB. Also financially, the club are still burdened by Arron Ramsdale being on the books. If he doesn’t move on in this window Saints have to factor his wages in any money available for potential transfer fees from the THB sale. |

Harwood - Bellis won’t play until he is gone or the transfer window shuts and he gets his head back on the task at hand. I would like to see Schlotterbeck start and move Stephens or Wood to right CB. Hopefully Stephens playing in a more natural position for him would help improve his all round play and reduce the errors. If not I don’t see a way back for him.
If JWP is on the pitch expect Scienza to fall over around the opposition box even more than usual. |

The key requirement is #2 reform. But that will only be allowed to happen if Infantino leaves his role.
It should be remembered that Infantino was elevated to the FIFA presidency on that promise of reform and transparency. Following the murky and corrupt regime of Sepp Blatter, Infantino’s early tenure was a positive change. The issue was Infantino at some point woke up to how much power he held and once that was the case, his presidency quickly became about how he could exploit and prolong that power. Therefore reform of FIFA is essential to ensure whoever comes next doesn’t fall into the same bad ways that have blighted Infantino’s later time. |

I think Downes is perfectly able to play the enforcer role. I saw Charles playing the more creative role of the two CM’s. So I would look to try and recruit someone more in the style of Wanyama’s partner, Morgen Schneiderlin. |

We looked like it was still preseason in the first half with experimental tactics and poor focus in defence. Second half was better and good goal from Larin although we lost the momentum once he was subbed off.
Downes looked like he was up for it but given our lack of cover in midfield it won’t be long before he is facing a ban for picking up 5 bookings.
Overall this looked still like a work in progress. Let’s hope things click sooner rather than later otherwise we will have too much to catch up on the pace setters. |

Notwithstanding that BBD was playing out of position, his touch and general movement looked woeful. That point was emphasised when Larin replaced him and the side in general looked better (with acknowledged to the positive impact of the other subs).
While we do need a centre forward to replace Stewart, BBD is not the answer. And it Tonda is looking at BBD ahead of Damien Downs in that position then it doesn’t say much for the managers confidence in Downs to be the answer either. |

Cliveganderson, I don’t disagree agree with your view on what is appropriate but I think you are misguided in assuming the FA will give a flying fig about what punishment has already been handed to the club. They are separate from the EFl and will want to be seen to conduct their own process and judgement on the situation. If they had any empathy at all for Saints they would have concluded their investigation weeks ago rather than wait until any punishment can have maximum impact. |

The punishment is as stated in the article. Ban for 1 - 3 matches. This is the FAs standard misconduct charge probably as you say because they don’t have a specific charge for spying. There is a more serious charge E2.3 which carries a minimum 6 game ban but Tonda hasn’t been charged under this office. If the ban is in line with the FAs own rules then he will be back after max 3 games. I think the club will live with that. |

I don’t know what the GK situation is at Leicester but I expect McCarthy can do a decent job in League One. I agree that his (lack of) ability with passing out from the back makes this an odd choice for Russell Martin. Perhaps RM has learned a few lessons since he was with us and getting a decent and experienced keeper is seen as a better move than one who can play as a sweeper. Let’s face it Leicester are not going to attract top talent in L1. |
