Loft Flags donations and merch
at 20:45 29 Apr 2024

I agree - well done to everyone involved for bringing some life and colour back to the Loft. My only complaint is that I'm sitting in the only part of the ground (UL) where I can't see it!

Please don’t make any excuses for the rancid filth in the away end last night. Their excuses are being dismantled on social media, they knew perfectly well what they were doing. Instead, do as the OP and Mark suggested - set up a direct debit to KPF, even if only for a small amount. Meanwhile let’s see if Leeds make an apology - not holding my breath.

Project Big Ben?
at 17:28 17 Mar 2024

This ongoing saga is always a bag of riddles and secrecy, and this time round the slightly baffling thing (at least to me) is why our vastly wealthy owners require external investment at all. Surely they can use their own private wealth?

The club has also been hinting that either behind the School End and/or other land adjoining the ground may be available. And then of course, there is this proposed design, perhaps showing the art of the possible:

https://www.michaeldrain.com/project/qpr-stadium-loftus-road#3

Making better use of the existing space would give us a decent capacity and more revenue from hospitality, and this doesn't seem beyond reason.

One thing that would be refreshing would be a bit of honesty from the club about exactly what their intentions are, and how things sit with the equally tight-lipped Council.

New CEO appointed
at 18:03 12 Jan 2024

Retexo Intelligence - where our new Oxford-educated (didn't get a first) CEO was previously working, failed to find a DoF in the 6 months they have had to get the job done. They said it would take a month, and there were lots of candidates to be looked at. They have managed instead to provide us with a CEO, who happens to be one of their own employees - I would be asking for my money back at this stage: 'unexpected item in the bagging area'.

Analytics companies are the new crack cocaine for football clubs, and while Brighton and Brentford show us all how it should be done, there are many, many examples of egregious failure in this category. Are Retexo tinpot or the real deal? Where would your money be, given our recent track record. They have manoeuvred themselves into a tidy spot here, and with no skin in the game, can have as much fun as they like signing crap players for our team before disappearing into an AI-generated puff of smoke.

Also, one of the main jobs the CEO has on his hands is the small matter of finding a new ground, or fixing up the current one. Does he have the right profile for this job?

It is 'very QPR' to be somewhat less than transparent, and this feels like the consequence of more naive, ill-informed scheming. Tell us what you have done with our DoF first, and then maybe we can be happy about this CEO that the machine seems to have spat out.

False 9 anyone?

Nothing would be lost by giving Kelman a few games - we're certainly not going to miss Dykes' goals and assists.

Nick London gone!

From what was said, his departure seems permanent. For someone whose main job is to watch QPR games, it was surprising how often he wrongly identified our players.

Warnock is seriously past it and would be an extremely lazy, thoughtless appointment.

Warnock would be another serious mistake. Let's hope this isn't true.

The Hoop in Notting Hill was something of a classic. It's been gone a while, think it must have been the early 90s I was last there.

After a long period in freefall, we do seem to have turned some sort of corner, and will only improve as players (Fox, Cook, Colback particularly) reach full fitness. Our relative lack of goals is now more a question of luck than (as previously) lack of chances. Particularly impressive to me is that Ainsworth is starting to get the best out of marginal players like Kakay and Dozzell, and is not afraid to get the younger players involved - more than can be said about most of his predecessors.

The squad is thin, but that's the way it is while our FFP situation is so tight, and I'm much happier to see Ainsworth just getting on with it rather than bleating about needing extra players.

Is there a realistic alternative to Ainsworth?
at 10:47 6 Aug 2023

Our form hit freefall under Warburton as it has continued to do since he left, and he - like other before him - could only manage the job with an injection of 4-5 expensive players, cutting our throats in the long term.

That said, we are definitely going to be getting a new manager (one or more) this season. At some stage, we are going to have to do the long-term planning needed to be a competitive team operating on a sustainable budget, so I will be happy when we go back to this approach and appoint a manager I have never heard of before.

His departure not related to the QPR DOF role according to Dave Mc.

He's been OK for the last few games, was OK for his first couple, but absolute sludge in between. We could do much better for a quarter of the wages.

Serious Question - Is Les now a distraction we cannot no longer afford?
at 19:40 17 Apr 2023

I'm not really sure what the case against Les actually is. I keep seeing references to 'his mates' and his 'lack of qualifications', and then I hear lots of laughable conspiracy theories, such as binning Charlie Austin because he was concerned that Charlie threatened Les's goalscoring record. It feels like a small, vocal minority have had the knives out for Les for quite some time, regardless of what's been happening on the pitch, motivated by a fairly primal hatred. In general terms, the rest of us probably don't know enough about how much Les is or isn't to blame about our current situation, but we do know that we are watching our club disappear before our eyes, and it's not unreasonable to have an emotional response to that, or to want to change things.

If we're having a serious discussion, then it's not just about Les, but the whole set up. What we have been trying to achieve hasn't worked, or at least not in the way it should have done. I see the problem starting at the top, with an absence of clear leadership from the Board, which allows for divergence in approaches once you get down to DOF and manager level - we're not the first club to have had this problem.

Let's not just continue to sack and hire - someone up top needs to start making some smart decisions, even if they take a while to bear fruit.

A few reflections on Rotherham...

Thanks - interesting write up and I share a lot of your views. Whatever we think, or think we know about our players at the moment, we absolutely need to get behind them for the rest of the season.

Critchley gone apparently
at 19:33 19 Feb 2023

100% deserved - he may be the 15th best coach in the world but his job was to select, motivate and organise players. Definitely a tricky transition from Snake Beale's short tenure, but he had good enough players - even with injuries - to at least have a middling start to his QPR career. I really struggled to see what he was trying to do, and the players clearly weren't buying it.

Good luck to him, but he's the one responsible for results, and it would have been madness to expect things to change. Now let's see what Joey Barton can do
