Well done. Though for full backs Id have gone for Gregory Vignal, John Beresford or Scott Hiley. Certainly ahead of Mick Mills, unless I'm missing something? Plus Kevin Phillips, Stern John, Che Adams, Kevin Miller, Jan Valerie and Nathan Redmond [Post edited 3 Dec 15:21]

Yeh, I'd go with that list and also add Zola. There was one game in I think 96/7 where it looked like we may go down, so I went away to Chelsea as I thought I may not get to ever see Zola play otherwise. Would also add Klinnsmann and I think I may have seen Davor Suker play against us, and certainly saw Alen Boksic destroy us one day at The Dell for Boro Edited to add Henry, Southall and Dalglish to the list. 3 of the very best. The Dalgliah doc on Prime is worth a watch [Post edited 25 Nov 15:30]

1. Our train (0730 from Central) was cancelled, but picked up a Southern Service to Havant and got a fast one from there, so arrived 10 mins earlier than planned. 2. Didn't have a beer before the game. This may be the first away I haven't done that at an away since I was about 14. Went straight back after as I had plans for the evening, so just had train cans on the way back. We had to put a Saints fan straight who was behaving like a tw@ on the train 3. Decent ground and I think thr corners may have been filled in since my last visit in 2009. This was also my first win there, though I saw us stuff them at Selhurst in 1990. Away End facilities weren't great, but I didn't need either the toilet or refreshments 4. First half was as good as anything in years. We were fast and direct. Charlton couldn't cope, but Jones did at least make a change for them. Second half was excellent game management. I was willing DD to get a goal but it isn't looking likely. There MUST be a player in there. 5. The Jones abuse was a bit much. It wasn't completely his fault and he was evidently struggling with the stress of it all at SMS. I don't dislike him, and actually find some of his antics quite funny. Another case of wrong man at the wrong time [Post edited 24 Nov 17:51]

I was making the same point about the second half on the train home and in messages to my kids. The game management was really professional and gave us the chance to rest some key players The first half was sublime, with Scienza, Fellows and AA the highlights of the Blitzkrieg, and the defence and midfield partnership giving them the base to run riot |

When I saw the Rosea on their reunion tours between 2012-7, Reni and Mani really came in to their own with the outros to the song, playing off each other with John Squire being the guitar hero. And Ian Brown doing what he did Incidentally, I saw Ian Brown one time.at The Guildhall way before the reunions, but he had started doing some Roses tracks. The notorious Guildhall acoustics actually really favoured him, and it was a great gig. |

Rumours that Mani has passed away. That's heartbreaking if so, he seemed such a good man |

As long as England qualify, I want all the home nations to qualify. Gives the tournament more edge. And I include the Republic as I am Irish enough to qualify for a passport |

He loved Japan and I think they loved 'us'. He is in Italy shortly and then has decompression* in Gibralter before arriving back in a couple of week. There will be tears. Not least because I have had to book a hotel in Portsmouth the night before. *Decompression/piss up to get it out their system. [Post edited 14 Nov 21:31]

Yeh, my Grandad was a radio operator and was based there (as well as what is now Sri Lanka and, weirdly, Flowerdown in Winchester), so my mum lived around those 3 places. My eldest lad is on Prince of Wales at the moment and was meant to be going to Malta on his current deployment but it changed, which was a shame Terrible match, but the Malta team bloody loved it at the end! |

I've taken the opportunity to have a weekend away on my own and gone to watch Finland v Malta. Nothing I like more than visiting different cities around Europe and taking in a match. My mum grew up in Malta so I am taking Malta's win as a win for me |

It was mentioned a few times that his 'legs had gone' towards the end of his time here. It has given everyone a lift though, and I wonder if a few people may not be ill etc every other week with Oriol breathing down their neck. [Post edited 7 Nov 13:55]

Those games were within a couple of months, weren't they? And another 4-0 loss a year before It used to be my favourite away as we had some great games there, with a packed away end and a few 'friendly' encounters with their fans (who we later became mates with), but when you go there now, with all the new stadiums and rebuilt ends, you realise how crap it is |
