I also watched from the comfort of my sofa. Mackie's reaction when we equalised was great - passion the likes of which bosingwa could never muster. His enthusiasm is infectious

"Houllier’s heart probably resembles an old dog chewed slipper by now ". You've done it again. I was on the tube reading this, this morning, and was failing to put a lid on the laughter. Cue strange stares from fellow commuters and possibly a small amount of wee.

I don't wish to mock the afflicted but this is just such a cracking simile. Permission to plagiarise?

QPR flirt, but fail to score at the debutante ball — full match report
at 09:09:34

another blinder. I spent a restless night with a few anxieties last night so felt less than great this morning, but you've made me smile again. Not sure if my fav is the housemate from hell, stepdad, or puncheon's backside. All crackers. I also enjoyed the write up in the Telegraph yesterday (not my normal paper, honest)..."Rangers kept raiding down the right, even a local tabby joining in the first half fun of running at Ryan Taylor, Newcastle's shakey left back"

What a night. The ground did, indeed, rock. I was exhausted at the end. It all felt a bit post-coital on the train.

Clive, I think you are right. Great reporting as ever, and I completely disagree with the conflict point made above. Now let's all join together and back the team.

I was offered a hospitality ticket to this game, but with toenails to file and an apple to watch go brown, I turned it down. I don't know where to start. This should be a period where I have massive excitement and anticipation, but instead I have a horrible feeling somewhere deep in my stomach. Mind you, that chicken did seem a bit underdone last night. I digress. It is not about lack of transfer activity (although I will admit that each signing is like a new "hit" for me, even when they might be uninspiring). There are too many other things, and it all started when we were denied a open bus celebration for the title.

Things are amiss. There is clearly an issue over ownership, and I suspect that our intransigence in almost everything (no sponsor yet, possible issues re: Paddy Kenny, free transfers, Tarbs sale, etc etc) has something to do with this. Why make decisions (investment or otherwise) about a project if you have no long term plans for it? I suppose it is analogous to working out your notice period in a job. The sooner this is resolved, the sooner intransignec will convert to activity. The sponsorship thing really puzzles me (although I have given up on rangers' chat rooms - they just reactivate that feeling in my gut - so maybe there is a reason or at least a theory.

Anyway, rant about that over. I love your style of writing, and I fear this may be the one thing that keeps me sane over the coming months. Actually, you often make me laugh and last night was no exception with your "with a straight face" comment about Pat. THat was up there with the comments you made about Alistair Campbell last season - "omnipresent tit", I seem to recall. Still chuckling now.

Before I sign off ..... Sir Colin has got very many things right since he came along and I have everything to thank him for. There are clearly a couple of howlers: Leon Clarke for one. I think Rowly is another. Actuially, he is a class player and I think could still do a job, even if only as a sub. He is still being paid, so where's the loss? Actually, I love (in a purely platonic way!) Rowly. He has been great for us, he can pass th ball with the best of them, and has had a never say die attitude. I just think it's a shame and I wish him all the very best when he moves on.

Gotta go, I think I'm right about the chicken!

Great write up as always. Still chuckling at the comments on Alistair Campbell last week! Cov were not pretty but I thought they were a lot better than the game at their soulless place. Shame the panto villain scored but tbh I was still laughing at the kum by yah song. You can't script such genius
