What a f**k up. Gutted. Agree with the posts above that all of those responsible need to get out of the club asap. Always been proud of Saints, even in the dark days of mid 2000's, but this is beyond belief. The club is tarnished for the next few decades. i was too young to remember Don Revies Leeds but even today we always refer to them as Dirty Leeds.

As the cliché goes there are no easy games in this division. Neither Bristol or Swansea are bad teams and in Roy Bristol have an experienced manager. As frustrating as it is these games make the Championship the entertaining league it is.
Law of averages dictated we were going to drop points at some point and on a night where the outside chance of automatic promotion pretty much evaporated last nights point was as important as the last minute win on Saturday.
The last few months have been incredible and where we are now was impossible to imagine back then. They've shown incredible mental strength since February to get into the play offs and the semi final of the cup. We can't really blame the players for maybe holding something back looking ahead to Saturday, maybe captain Jack dropped out to save himself, and hopefully last nights draw will remind players that there is still plenty of hard work to do but also that now the winning run is over the mental pressure on that front might drop off.
The other thing that has been enjoyable about the past few months is not mentioning the owners - if they aren't mentioned it's a sure sign that all is well on the pitch. What a season and I hope we can keep this team and manager together for a few seasons at least.

The job Tonda has done, particularly since the turn of the year, has been miraculous. He's got everyone playing to their potential and bought in 3 key players who have made significant difference.
However, all his incredible work will be eclipsed if he can get Archer playing to his potential - and he has certainly got plenty. Based on not just his performance but players reaction to his assist and goal he's been spoken to, given options about his attitude and has reacted positively.

A shame as he did look to have something decent about him, even if he needed to bulk up a bit.
If this is all about his attitude then there much the club can do. I remember reading about a punch up in the changing room between Mark Dennis and Chris Nicholl. It wouldn't be such a bad thing if when players started sulking or behaving badly they got a roughed up a bit nowadays.

Can only judge him on performances and goals but an underwhelming replacement for one of the divisions top scorers. However if AA has hung up his boots may as well let him do a bit of work experience in the top league before coming back to the championship in May.

Very few would have seen this result coming. Great result from a very difficult place to go to. Great day all round and hats off to the hardcore for their excellent support once again.
4 at the back works (duh) so fingers crossed it will be the default now. The only concern on the pitch are the lack of forwards in the club if AM and CA leave. We're not ready to get promoted so not much point going up but we are still precariously placed int he league so need to secure our place in this league for a push next season

So very strange what has happened to our club. We have seen what potential can be reached when the right people, resources and planning is put in place most clearly under Markus Liebherr. Everything seemed joined up.
Under the current lot players are signed without thought for how they will fit into the squad/team but purely on how much money they can generate for the owners a few years down the road. The usual outcome of this is that we have a bloated squad of players that are no good for us and we cannot sell.
The multi club ownership model is flawed as dilutes resources and distracts the owners. It is also ripe for financial skulduggery. With the number of players, managers, backroom staff coming and going under the current owners can we be certain that what happens on the pitch is a priority for the owners. Or are the UKs light touch financial regulations the bigger attraction?
The latest transfer activity is very odd indeed. The obvious issue (well the biggest) is a lack of CB who can defend the 6 yard box. Swapping out a keeper of similar ability is a nonsense and then loaning out the previous incumbent is lunacy. Bazunas clean sheet at Stoke is I'm assuming that he has a steady defence in front of him.
The bottom line is SR need to sell as they cannot and do not have the will or ability/skills to enable this club to reach it's potential. The question of course is can we trust them to sell to credible buyers? I don't trust them as all.

No point in sacking the manager as SR is where the issue lies. Who would SR bring in if they gave WS the push? RM? Another obscure choice who has won a few games and talks great buzzword filled tactical nonsense?
I'm not sure what SR's strategy is but it's consistent with what they know i.e. ownership of modest clubs in the lower quality European divisions without any ambition beyond making themselves a few quid. Saints are a product of SR's ownership style and this is where we will stay whilst they remain in charge.
This isn't a criticism only a reflection of their history before they arrived at St Mary's and their actions since they arrived.

It does seem strange that SR have employed the same tactic every season since they arrived by spending a large sum of money on several mediocre players who generally do not improve the team and end up sitting in the reserves leeching money of the club and leaving us with a bloated team of junk.
It adds fuel to the fire that they keep employing inexperienced and at best average managers like the several shots in the dark they've appointed since they arrived at the club.
It would be illuminating to appoint an independent auditor to assess the finances of SR to investigate to see if something odd is going on.
Like DorsetIan and others I'm also bored with the way SR run the club. I know there is an argument that we could end up with a genuine bunch of pirates like SISU, the lot who did their best to kill Coventry, but with the infrastructure at this club we could also achieve the success that Boscombe and Brighton have enjoyed over the past 5 years or so with a strategically savvy owner at helm.
Something odd is going on at Saints as the same things under SR keep happening. |

Reading the comments over the past few months by the Scottish press felt like deja-vu from a Saints PoV. Surprised he messed up this quickly and be interesting to see if he gets anther job. Although with 2 big pay offs he can probably take some more time off to rethink his strategy.

Hi Bowlercow, I understand your comment and it's much healthier outlook than doom and gloom but I think the issue isn't one signing its the wider actions of sports republic. I've read this morning that the striker who came over Wellington earlier this year has been sold to SR's Turkish club. If this is true it is another strange transaction.
SR are often a hive of activity in terms of young players that arrive at Saints to then be loaned out straight away. Lots of financial transactions and paperwork without a positive impact on the first team. It begs the question of what is happening.
Running a successful football club requires both long and mid term planning but also it needs to address the current deficiencies in the first team, of which Saints have at least 2 (stopping and scoring goals) The manager has said he does not have the players to set up the team as he wishes.
Not many days left to address the first team issues and as you say we should wait and see but based on the last 3 years of SR's first team football decisions what is the likelihood of bringing a commanding CB and a proven striker? If I was a betting man I'd say 100-1. |
