Suddenly after a week's radio silence we're inundated with statements. Tonda's this morning includes a lot of "I'm not using this as an excuse but..." type of stuff but credit to him for finally standing up and taking it on the chin.
I can only assume this is some co-ordinated effort by the club to get everyone back on the same side but sadly, if the FA impose a ban, it might all be academic. Even Solak has said all bets are off if the FA ban Eckert. Interesting times. |

Surprised Ralf H isn't more fancied. I wasn't a fan of him during his last couple of seasons with us (too many weird team selections and baffling substitutions) but I wonder if he might be someone who would relish the challenge facing us. And the German connections would at least provide some semblance of continuity. |

I can live with him staying but I honestly don't see how it can possibly happen.
I'm guessing that SR are waiting for him to be banned by the FA so that they can say to the players "OK, the manager has left but it's not our fault so how about giving us another year under whoever we appoint as his replacement", giving them a possible way out of this mess without alienating the squad.
Then again I'm usually wrong about these things, but SR can be as devious as anyone else when the need arises. |

This is a huge stain on the club and will haunt us for years. However, when the dust settles a bit and those responsible are sacked/suspended/fined/slapped we will move on, as we always do.
I honestly don't think many genuine football fans expected us to be expelled from the play-offs - it's disproportionate. I imagine if Saints had been able to make that case during the original hearing it might not have happened but I guess you can't appeal against a punishment until the punishment has been issued; that's kind of how appeals work. Unfortunately, by the time the appeal was heard it was then too late for the committee to change their minds due to the sheer logistical chaos it would have caused.
I'm not defending the club at all - I feel angry and embarrassed right now - but I do think the EFL have a few questions to answer over why all this could not have all been dealt with last week, which would have been better for all clubs concerned. |

Quick question: I bought my ticket in the app and have received confirmation by email. However, the purchase is not showing in the app. I thought in the past my purchases show up immediately and it's just the QR code you have to wait for, or am I going mad? Anyone else having the same issue?

Agreed. I thought we looked tired and short of ideas. Both centre backs struggled all evening and we were out-muscled in midfield. Fair play for the way we fought back after going one down (mainly due to Larin and Azaz putting themselves about a bit) but it would have been hard on Ipswich if they had gone away empty-handed. At the end I was happy just to see the the unbeaten run stay intact.
Knowing how meticulous Tonda is I'm sure he is planning to rest players at the weekend and already has his starting eleven for the play-offs pencilled in. Hopefully PNE will be 'on the beach' anyway. |

To me, he looks a more solid player than the Edozie we originally signed. A bit less lightweight and naive. Lacks the trickery of Scienza or Fellows but has out and out pace so a great impact sub. Might not score many goals but will win a few penalties for us. |

Whatever my opinion of Still I don't think the timing is quite right. This is such a competitive league that two consecutive wins (or two defeats) can change things a lot. SR won't want to create more instability but they've also shown that they're not afraid to make big calls. Will Still will be given until the next international break but if things haven't improved by then I would be surprised if the Board failed to act. |

Disappointed not to win but the game came at a bad time. Several new players bedding in, many of whom would have been away during the international break. We should have brought a striker in during the transfer window, but given that we didn't you have to choose a centre forward, give them a run of games and wait for them to click, which will hopefully happen with Archer.
Taking the positives we didn't lose, and after the first ten minutes never really looked like conceding. At the end of the season we won't look back on this as a good point but we will hopefully look back on it as a stepping stone to where we wanted to be.
Then again I might look pretty stupid when we're relegated, but nothing new there. :-( |

Not much to choose between any side in this division. This time last season teams of Watford's standard would have been turning us over. I'm convinced that when our new players bed in we'll end up in the shake-up for play-off places.
That said I would personally opt for McCarthy in goal as he does seem to be able to save shots. :-( |

Sorry to hijack this thread but on a similar note I saw a Facebook post the other night that stated that Mateus Fernandes had posted a 'farewell' message to Saints fans as he is seeking a new club. I'm sure I didn't dream this but can no longer find the original post, nor can I find any news story on the web to back this up.
Did anyone else see this or have I missed something? |

Maybe it's an age thing but personally I can't think of anything worse than spending the weekend at Glastonbury (or should I be calling it 'Glasto' as that seems to be the law now). Queuing for overpriced food and drink, then jostling for space in a field alongside drunk middle-aged idiots who think they're cool because they've paid a small fortune to watch bands that are so far past their sell-by dates they're now effectively their own tribute acts. As Phill Jupitus once said if you want the Glastonbury experience stick a tent in your garden, stick a TV in your kitchen window where you can see it, then ask your next door neighbour to come and piss on you at three in the morning.
But if Glastonbury is your thing and you have a ticket I hope you have a great time! 
Personally I would rather see a good up-and-coming band at The Brook or 1865, grab a bus and be home in time for cocoa and a comfy bed. Oh shit, it IS an age thing...  |

No. Things always seem better looking back, but the last year Ralf was in charge was truly awful. Apart from a Boxing Day win at West Ham and a slightly freaky midweek victory at Spurs I can barely remember us winning any points at all. What I do remember is strange team selections, baffling substitutions, and a bizarre obsession with choosing Elyounoussi over Walcott (who was clearly a class above anyone else in the squad). Ralf should have gone at the end of the season after the Brentford debacle.
All that said he would probably have done better than any of the other managers we have had this season. As others have pointed out it wasn't losing Ralf, it was the people we appointed to replace him that were the problem. |

I hope Juric stays on at the end of the season. We ARE improving and have shown we can beat Championship teams. Also, encouragingly, Juric has openly acknowledged that the current team isn't good enough - unlike RM who laboured in the belief things would suddenly just 'click'. Somehow I would trust this guy with the Dibling/Ramsdale cash much more than another Championship-level manager who will just raid his former clubs for more sub-standard players, leaving everyone worse off. |

I was so depressed last night I couldn't bring myself to watch any of the post-match coverage but I'm guessing RM will blame the players again. The players will do what you tell them to so if they do the wrong things it's your fault, and if they're ignoring what you tell them to do that's just as bad. I actually thought we played OK yesterday but bizarre substitutions and defensive naivety cost us in the end. All this makes me think that these players can and will do better under another manager.
Thanks for a great 2023-24, RM. But as with Adkins the Board should realise that the Premiership is a step too far for you. We need a manager who understands that results count and that the PL is not a place in which to experiment or stick to misplaced "ideals". |
