I think the club missed a chance to repay the loyalty to the fans for those who forked out money on season tickets and for the playoffs. How many of those fans would have paid to watch in the knowledge all of the games were effectively friendlies. A nice gesture would have been to offer generously discounted tickets. |

Really happy with the result, but was nervous when we conceded as it was a needless penalty to give away. But definitely a penalty. Wood and Peretz (in particular) made me nervous with their pssing around at the back. I like Peretz a lot but a modern day goalkeeper needs to get their kicking right. Loved the pairing of JWP and Downes, who is a great choice for captain. Larin and Leo superb last night. But would still like to do see Fellows do more. I feel like he’s a player everyone wants to do well, but ultimately doesn’t deliver much. Onto Bristol City then and who feel like a giant bogey for us. |

One way of looking at it Steve and today he coped without him. But whilst we are paying his wages I agree with everyone else he should be playing. I don’t think a midfield 4 of Downes, Jander, Prowse and Bragg is going to be bettered by many clubs in this division. Obviously that picture changes quite radically if Jander doesn’t come back into the fray soon. Obviously finding £30m+ replacements in the making is nice, but guessing not that easy and especially this late in the window. I think we got lucky with Charles. It’s not often you get that kind of money for a player rarely starting. Hopefully Bragg will be our next big thing. Competing with the other 3 can only be healthy. |

Totally agree with the minority on here. Quality player and his experience will be massive addition. He’s 31 not 41 and he was banging on an England place when Southgate was in charge. Midfield isn’t what’s worrying me. It’s defence. Guess to one signing in central defence but if THB goes I don’t have much faith in JS. |

No brainier for me on a free. He’s only 31 and has good experience, leadership and is one of the best technical players I’ve seen at Southampton. I didn’t see the point in Lallalna, Walcott or Romeu returning but I feel differently on this one. He’s a proper professional and with a point to prove. Good luck to him. |

Definitely a couple of statement signings with those guys surely having other options, especially Peretz. I’d like to believe siege mentality can pull us through. Obviously that would require some of the big name stars like THB, Charles, Downes, Jander and Leo sticking around. If we could 2-3 of those guys would be massive boost. But as others have said whilst this FA sanctioning hangs over the club it’s going to impede any progress. And I think that’s what they want! |

Despite the past few weeks I will also thank Tonda for getting me back into enjoying watching Saints play. We’ve played some delightful football and that’s not because of spying as most of my enjoyable memories have been in open play and from a belief we are going to win. Even in Martin’s ‘successful’ season we were turd. How we got promoted when our record against the top sides (apart from Leeds) was appalling. And the football was worst than watching paint dry and no plan B. Tonda plays for the win and is prepared to utilise his squad to mix it up.
As disappointed as I feel with the club I’m still mindful of who to point a finger at with regards to the legal proceedings. I still feel like the Boro smear campaign (with experience gained from multiple challenges) gave them a massive advantage. I don’t think it would have mattered what we did. You can see it as rolling over, but we were dead in the water from the first photograph and any attempt to play tough might have resulted in that 6 point deduction for next season just for good measure.That said it doesn’t stop us from following up retrospectively for compensation if there is a route for doing so. |

It’s a good read, albeit as he has stated himself he is a Saints fan, so although there are apparently some legal loopholes we could explore, the severity of the punishment is still somewhat subjective, although like a lot of football fans I agree it was very harsh and we were made an example out of. There does feel like some recourse we could purse with claims against EFL and Boro, but it’s whether we can bothered at this point or wish to throw good money after bad. Obviously we will try and minimise collateral damage and next few weeks will be key. Club staying very quiet. |
