Our sixth sub - I presume six are allowed? Have any of ours been concussion subs?

Should it be Queen's Park Rangers?
at 13:47 17 Nov 2023

The insertion of an apostrophe in Rs has grated with me for all eternity - it's just plain wrong. Worse still, it has featured across the club's branding for a good while now - including, I think, in giant type on the back of the SAR stand. Enough to give grammar pedants (yes, like me) permanent nightmares.

Armageddon Leicester City at Home Match Thread
at 17:43 28 Oct 2023

From Clive's Leicester profile: Harry Winks, 27, DM, Spurs, £10m >>> Conor Coady, 30, CB, Wolves, £7.46m >>> Stephy Mavididi, 25, LW, Montpellier, £7m >>> Mads Hermansen, 23, GK, Bronby, £6m

Those numbers right there are the crux of it, at least today. Lashing out at Ainsworth, Dozzell, Jimmy Dunne, Hoos, Ferdinand or the catering woman who pours terrible beer terribly is just howling at the moon.

BIT LATE...wba match thread...

Yes, fair enough. But I suspect a decent ref with any sort of feel for the game would have let both go with a calm, quiet word and no card for either

BIT LATE...wba match thread...

Yes it was a penalty, yes Dunne was silly to get involved (and I didn't see him try to mess with the penalty spot, which he could have done) - but come on, that prick of a referee was clearly gagging to dish out a second yellow, and obviously had a massive hard-on when he waved the first yellow for coming back on without permission. Yet more pathetic, corrupt officiating.

All fair enough, though I would counter that by saying it's not just David who shithouses when up against Goliath; we've had it done to us countless times over the past few seasons, and we've not been one of the genuine big boys (if we ever were) for thirty years.

Serious questions for the club
at 21:49 30 Jul 2023

I think this is where the "supporter-representation-on-the-board" (or lack of) comes in; if we had that avenue open to us then in theory we wouldn't need to be on here demanding our questions/concerns were addressed in this way.

I only have a very cursory understanding of the 51%/German model of ownership but, like everything else the Germans (and Brighton, and Brentford) do, I hate how green with envy it makes me every time I read about their fresh, innovative ways. As is often said on these pages, we really, truly aren't allowed nice, shiny things.

Waiting with weary resignation for the urban legend to emerge that that bellend on the PA crept in after dark to bury a Brentford scarf under the main building, causing us untold years of ill-fortune.

Stokes needs to be getting himself ready for the Ashes, never mind p1ssing about with a blow-up trophy at Burnley.

I'm sure it's been said already, but all that was needed was a quiet word to both benches to calm down, and then get on with the game (which was obviously long gone by that point). The insistence of the 4th official to wield a bit of power, and then for the ref to flourish the cards in the way he did, was a total embarrassment.

Tom Lawrence

Ability and advanced driving skills aside, my take on Lawrence is that he's a snide, niggly shithouser on the pitch, who hasn't failed to raise my blood pressure with his antics most times he's played against us. It's 100% a no from me.

I was a tiny bit disappointed that Dykes (and Charlie) didn’t come over to clap the fans; they both strode straight off the pitch in deep discussion - obviously no idea if they were having a falling out or just a tactical exchange as others have posted above.

Would have loved to have given Dykes warm applause, as I thought he was brilliant last night (prob second only to Albert as MOM IMO); his work rate was top drawer (one particular wholehearted sprint across most of the width of the pitch to close down late on sticks in the mind). Oh well - I’ll take the three points and the absolute scenes when the winner went in!

Worst Ref

Can’t believe we’ve got this far down the thread before Robbie Hart’s name is mentioned.

The amount of injury time added to the second half of that game was corrupt - there is simply no other word for it. I probably need to be a bit careful what I say here - so let’s just say that if it ever came out in the future that Hart had been paid to ensure United went away without losing that day, I would not be in the least bit surprised. That’s how strongly I feel about that game.

What If England INternational

Was going to post this exact same point. Hard to have much sympathy for Taylor at that tournament when he realised he had to play the QPR left winger at right back in one of the group games, rather than the superb QPR right back sat on his bum at home. If Bardsley was playing for Man U or Arsenal he’d have won 50 caps, no question.

Where do we stand on bringing in out of contract players?

One of my favourite ever Rangers players. Always seemed such an honest and likeable chap too. A Forever R if ever there was one (can’t remember if he’s in already). Wonder what he’s up to these days?

Brilliant post, thank you so much. Goal number 9 tends to be overlooked, but it remains my most uncontrollably mental celebration of all time inside (or outside) a football ground.

This hits the nail on the head for me. I liked him and desperately wished for him to do well - but every time I ever saw him he was chief culprit for receiving the ball, hesitating/dwelling on it forever and slowing the pace of our play right down.

So I'm not as saddened by this as I thought I might be - unless of course SW finish above us, in which case I'll throw my season ticket at Warburton's head in a vein-throbbing rage.

Chair.

Agree with all of this. It might also be that Warburton may prefer Chair as an option at home (tight ground, small pitch, little lad), more readily than having him kicked up in the air by large Northerners on Cold Tuesday Nights Up North (TM). A comfortable living room Chair for relaxing at home, rather than a portable deckChair.

Fair enough, thanks! I agree that they probably fit that "well-run" category behind the scenes.

On Prem FFP I was sure Man City fell foul of this a year or two ago - or was that just a penalty handed down by UEFA limiting their squad size in European competition? I need a lie down.
