He was allowed to run and run. Francis looked like he was running in quick sand. Some decent play, the highlight being Rodney's great finish which adds to the frustration. The sending off was technically correct but a bit harsh in the spirit of the type of game it is. |

Think he played full back in some preseason games. More worrying is Maguire's destraught face as he walked off before the other starters. He has since been replaced in the starting line up. |

Very attacting line up. No idea who is playing midfield with Francis. Good to see Bradley getting a start. These games were always a good opportunity to play young players. Maguire getting some game time will be useful. I would like to see Hayes get 30 minutes in the second half. |

Flint has the physicality to deal with the balls pumped into the box. Him and Maguire should be able to deal with that. Add Beckwith and Tasker either side and you have the physicality . Give them and Ramming a few games together and we should have a bit more stability. It takes time to build that defensive trust.
It appears that Watson wants a sitter to play with a more mobile midfielder. Yesterday Gilmour was playing more of the sitter. Adeeko is fairly mobile but Francis, whilst reasonable on the ball is not the most mobile. It is a shame Pettit got injured when he did as he would definitely be an option there.
Once the wide players get up to speed I think the forwards will get better service. |

We started well and Tasker and Smith linked up down the right and then we kind of stopped playing, got a bit swamped in midfield and probably have been behind at the break. In the second half we looked more comfortable defensively and the substitions were proactive. If you have two wide players on the bench you can afford to spell at least one after 60 minutes. Maguire and Flint looked solid and I thought apart from dawdling on the ball a bit, Wilson had a decent game against Fondop. Certainly an education for the young lad.
Brown had an interesting game. He worked hard and won a few duels when the ball was played up to him. He did lack service but when he got his chance he took it well rolling the defender and hitting the corner. Hopefully the first of many. He is a willing worker and offers more pace than other options.
I still think we looked a bit open at times in midfield and how we ended with Francis sitting and Gilmour and Adeeko playing either side could be an option. When they get more match fitness our wide players could be a real threat as they have undoubted quality. |

Started off well and used the wide players to get in behind. Then we have lived a charmed life. They are dominating in midfield. Taylor needs to drop deeper and we need to get the ball wide again especially with Hannant and Hayes to come on.

Got in the ground early to avoid such problems and the over the top stewarding and there were a dad and lad sat in the seats of two season ticket holders who sit in front of me. When challenged whether they were sat in their correct seats the Dad said no and asked whether it matters. |

Seeing the respective teams will be interesting. If they have Scott-Morriss at right back and Delaney and Daniels at centre back I would be looking to play in behind with Brown up front and pace on the left. They will be looking to stress test our box so I would not be suprised if Maguire and Flint start. |

Middleton/Smith - who ever is deemed as being fitter.
Brown
Gilmour over Francis as he is more combative which will need. Taylor as the ten. He can also drop in when needed to give a bit more stability in midfield. Hannant with his work rate on one side and whoever is the fitter of Smith and Middleton to play the other side. I would have Hayes and whoever does not start between Smith and Middleton on the bench but use them after 60 minutes to bring a fresh impact. Look to attack Scott-Morris if he is playing as a right back in a back four.
I would start with Brown and look to play in behind the Oldham defense. He will certainly offer more of a running threat and could help to create space for Taylor. |

All fair points. A settled back four and keeper would help with continuity and fit and firing wide players would give us plenty of options and impact from the bench. My main concern is have we got enough in midfield and up top before we can strengthen in January? |

I am assuming that we are already exploring non registered players and thinking about what deals might be done in the January window.
I suspect targets will already be lined up for January and I would also expect some outgoings as well. A striker and an experienced centre half are probably on the shopping list, although a fit Maguire may lesson the experienced aspect. I think there will be money there for signings. |

Hannant on one wing and then Smith/Middleton on one wing. If they can only do 50 minutes so be it. Take them off after 50 minutes. Taylor in the 10 and then Brown up front. Play a bit more in the channels and get him running in behind. At least he will work a bit harder up top than Mani has been. |

If you had offered me a point before kick off I would have taken it. Another week of training for Smith, Middleton, Heyes and Maguire should mean they are ready for more game time. |

If we have so many wide players on the bench it makes sense to use them, especially as on paper we have a bit of quality in that position. I would argue that it is the position we are strongest in. |
