He arrived to great fanfare and when I read about his departure something feels off. The club made a point of mentioning the last 4 results under the interim manager. But frankly having spent far too many years with the club causing me anxiety around the mens team I'm not sure I can sign up to our women's team being embroiled in some behind the scenes shenanigans! but its our club and I wish all teams well. |

To include Ready but not Ceasar overlooks the latters 5 appearances in 1990 - with special mention of Wimbledon away in December which in fairness probably ensured Bobby Gould, Darren Peacock and Andy Tilson happened [Post edited 15 Sep 11:50]

I’m generally mild mannered, not controversial, see the best in most whenever I can but Rod Liddell and John Terry (plus a bloke I used to work with Chris Everett) couldn’t muster a pleasant word about any of them following their passing. Good fu ck ing riddance |

Bromley were my local side as an early teenager. Watched either them, Welling or Cray Wanderers most weeks when Rangers were away. Nice ground. Pain the arse to get to as 61 bus stopped at the wrong end of Hayes Lane.
I too watched a charity match there c 1983. Still have Ian Dawes sock ties in my self store unit in Brecon. Not there tonight the ouzo in Rhodes is more appealing. |

I like to think Im a reasonably intelligent chap. Worked in finance for a very long time. But I also find trying to decipher all of this way too unecessary - bit like I've always found trying to learn a new language (Welsh I'm looking at you) harder than I think it should be.
Dorse does a great job helping me 'better' understand the incomprehensible so perhaps it's more that I like seeing an 89th minute winner than trying to fathom what all this really means. Analysis much appreciated nonetheless |

Reminds me of the suggestion that both him and Jim Gregory wanted to buy us in the mid-60s - rumours suggest that he was actually a supporter. Jim won; Bates lost before he resurfaced at Wigan and then 'that lot'. Urban myth maybe but he would have been 'very QPR' but I'm glad we dodged that potential bullet |

I've stuck with it and 2 things struck me. Either ……..
1 we are hugely over engineering this with all these 'elite performance specialist' types focusing on individual aspects to secure fine margins, or
2. imagine how much worse Birmingham away would have been if all these 'elite performance specialist' types weren't propping up this average mid table championship team |

RIP Alan - I have to offer my fantastic experience of Alan - aside from sharing the touchline with him in the 90s at 11am youth team games ahead of home games (& sometimes away matches if the geography worked!).
I found myself (ok deliberately) in the west country for 2010/11 pre-season. Spent the day hanging around Torquays finest bars and eateries before heading up the hill walking to Plainmoor. Coming down the hill was Alan. We recognised each other and he was utterly convinced he was heading in the right direction. Having persuaded him that he 'misunderstood' we spent the next 30 minutes wandering in the right direction chatting about ………….
I can't remember the game, the score (the weather was glorious) but I can remember the stroll with him
What an absolutely fabulous, knowledgable and kind chap. |

Interesting, thanks for sharing.
He always came across as throughly decent and thoughtful. I liked the few times he played for us, his outlook, professionalism and (dare I say) his politics. It may not have worked out with us but he managed a very successful career at several clubs elsewhere. Hope it works out for him. I somehow suspect it will |

We'd been on horrendous losing run (I want to say 7 straight defeats) and had been relying on Gus Ceasar on loan. Bobby Gould, Peacock and Tilson came in and transformed us otherwise we would have been relegated that season |
