For me, FD has put in a full shift every game he has played since the day he arrived. Great to see him getting the recognition he has deserved for a very long time. The amount of ground he covers, interceptions and tackles made, plus a calmness in possession. May he please avoid both injury and yellow cards....A very good performance last night, my only negative is that I'd have liked Wellington to have started again...ohh, and the foreboding feeling that Stephens will be back on Saturday.... |

several names highlighted after last night for particular criticism, and I wouldn't disagree with any of it, but I'm amazed that Manning wasn't mentioned. In the defensive side of his game, he is quicky becoming a liability, missing on so many occasions. I would really like t see Wellington given a run again - he did extremely well last season prior to getting injured. |

Saint Ben well said, sorry Dizzie, you're clueless. In his last season with Saints he showed he was the easiest CM player in the Prem to play against. Yes, a luxury to have for free kicks etc, but it takes a bit more than that, even in he Championship, which is even more physical - and yes, I am a season tkt holder. A backward step, a bad move, and won't go anywhere close to replacing SC. Just a cheap option. |

No, I didn't include Scienza because between the 4, he's the first I would let go for a reasonable fee. |

I completely agree with Colburn here...yes, Scienza is technically talented, but far too often, there's no end product, and possession is lost. I would add SC to the 3 listed above, but we all know we're very unfortunately resigned to losing him.
Just on a different note - I was never a massive fan of Targett, but, at 30, he's clearly a proven Championship player, and available on a free - plus he knows he will have to take a massive pay cut from his now expired Newcastle contract. Got to be worth a look? |

No level of incentive will take away the fact that those who colluded to make the decisions they did, gave no thought whatsoever to the time, effort and significant amount of money invested by supporters, particularly those who attended many away games. It was all for nothing. Whilst for football reasons I really want TE to stay, but criticise Clintwestwood's comments above as much as you like, and yes, we all know the punishment was disproportionate to the crime massively, but the bottom line is , we did it, we did cheat. Be honest if our neighbours down the road were in the same position, would we think they'd been heavily punished? Would we be pragmatic and listen to their reasoning? NO, we would make the most of it and have a lifetime of fun out of it at their expense. As good as a manager TE is, he showed a complete lack of understanding and made a very, very poor decision. TE was never going to be here forever....the fans are. He should have considered the consequences for the fans, and not least those who spent 1000s of pounds , for nothing!! |

Completely agree with the comments above relating to the fact that the punishment is disproportionate to the crime. After that, everything else is the fault of a few misguided idiots that have managed to ruin the reputation of our club for a very long time, but also, most importantly, insult our fans in taking the risk they took, with complete disregard to the commitment, support and considerable expense to all, not least, our amazing away support. The club need to show recognition of this. I've never felt so angry with our club. As it stands now, I have no intention of renewing my season tkt next season. yes it's frustrating to know we still have 3000 unsold tkts, but, we're not alone - that team 19 miles down the road are, thankfully, in a relegation battle where every home game is key, yet still they couldn't fill their much smaller ground last night.
We also have to acknowledge that for a lot of people, especially those who get tkts on an ad-hoc basis, there are fans finding it a difficult financial climate currently, and with 5 Saints games at home in April may have to curb their preference to be at every game. |

I'm not being disrespectful to Terry Hurlock, but FD is far more mobile than TH ever was. He is forever available to receive the ball, covers so much ground, and protects the back 4 constantly- more Morgan Schneiderlin than TH for me!! He's been far too underestimated by too many Saints fans for too long. I will add though, that I do think the CM positions are our strongest area with Jander and Charles in the mix - in fact in any configuration, employing any 2 of those 3 has a good argument a good problem to have for Eckert. |

I agree with much of what has been said above, but still fail to see why FD is among a couple of others, singled out for criticism - one contribution above refer to him not being another Prowsey - that's true. FD puts in more challenges and tackles in 1 game than JWP did in a season. JWP was the easiest CM to play against in the whole PL, yet it seem so few Saints fans could see that. Yes, he was committed, had integrity and a model professional, but couldn't tackle yet played CM because he had insufficient pace to play wide. Re FD, his work rate and effort alone should be recognised. Does he pas square or back? Yes, as there's so little going on in front of him. JWP made a lucrative career passing square and backwards.... |
