Poor state of affairs if true
at 19:04 15 Mar 2023

Came across this link below on Facebook, I don't usually believe all I read & hear unless from source. But as this was posted by Mr Hicks himself I can only assume (without yet hearing any response from the club) that this is a very shoddy way to treat a long time employee & former player. Sorry if this has been covered elsewhere. I don't know Keith but as long as I've been supporting Dale he has been a stalwart of the community set up.

I'm very drunk on season eve, but c'mon the Dale

Not sure if this has been seen before, and clearly it was before lockdown. But what a strike, one of them times where once you've hit it you know its decent.

Looks like training on Heywoods all weather?

Groundsman
at 13:48 10 Feb 2018

I know that it appears we have recently parted company with head groundsman and that Oli has been seen around the club (and working on the pitch on Tuesday) whilst Russ credited Drew on Talksport.

Question is this, should we invest in the best groundsman we can to manage our pitches moving forwards? I don't personally know Phil Collinson or Old Makin, but we didn't seem to suffer as much with them in charge. I could of course be totally wrong an my memory failing me.

If the ex groundsman put the wrong sand down that's ridiculous and you'd have to question his credentials to look after a professional football pitch, but by the same token those who employed him!

Keepers we loved to hate! or just loved?
at 20:32 17 Jan 2017

Being a sandy laner since introduced as kid, I've always found the interaction with opposition keepers funny (when there up for it) not sure any that I hate, none spring to mind.

However I used to love Tony Roberts (Dagenham I think) he always played to the crowd and never took it too seriously. One occasion some fool's went overboard and said something about his wife or daughter which wasn't called for.

Anybody over the years have any funny keeper stories?

Milwall yellow for celebration
at 09:38 27 Nov 2016

Quick question, and may be showing my naivety and non understanding off the rules but.... Just seen the highlights on goal rush and after milwall scored the winner the player takes off his shirt (1 yellow) then jumps into away end to celebrate (1 yellow) so question is should he have walked?

As for us, I can't say I'm despondent about losing, had 2 great home games and were not going to win them all. Still 5th and on course for as good as or better finish than last season.

How much to be chairman?
at 09:55 13 Jan 2013

This isn't a Dunphy out thread. I agree with most people in here that the decisions made past and present are/have been littered with mistakes by the board/chairman.

I ask how much as, if some posts are to be believed about CD looking haunted/weight of world on shoulders ect ect, then he COULD decide to walk away? If its nit a kings ransom to buy in could trust funds with additional donations be made and a new chairman found, or would we have to wait for a stranger to buy in?

I really think the time has come for CD to ask 'some' fans for help, at this point more than any other that we need fan representation on the board and if it went to vote I would vote yes for the 'ringfenced' bowlee money to be used to buy in.

Just want all this to stop and be, well be dale again, caus this currently isn't the dale I love.

Pre season
at 20:35 2 Jul 2012

Is anybody aware if we are training away from the uk again this year? I know its normally spain (or has been for the past 3 seasons or so) or with all the pre season games coming up is it likely we will stay at home, Im just wondering if that is the case would it be an advantage or disadvantage?

at 22:00 21 Feb 2012

Never was my best subject but here goes, Im sure someone will correct if Im wrong.

Before Coleman.

Played 27
Points 21
Points per game 0.77
Would have given us after 46 games 35

Since Coleman.

Played 4 (inc league leaders & 2 play off chasers)
Points 7
Points per game 1.75
Points after Colemans 19 games 33.25

IF we can keep up the points per game ratio then by my reckoning were safe. Yes its a tall order but based on what has gone on so far why not. Im not even sure that 50 points will be needed this season to stay up, its quite congested down the bottom, and I can see others being dragged in yet.

Oldham
Tranmere

Great effort tonight, and will do the confidence good for another trip south at the weekend.
Up the Dale.

Deadline day business done?

Are we to expect any further news? Has Richard Partington been tweeting away? (I wouldnt know as not a member) and is the light still on in Colins office?

Would like a winger and a target man (of not youth level, if possible) and I think if Dale can make a couple of decent signings in those area's I can see no reason why not we cannot be safe come may.

Your the new gaffer, whats your team v bury?
at 08:20 24 Jan 2012

I have no doubt jc will know about all our players, with this in mind and if you was him, what's your team for bury?

Here's mine

Lucas

Darby
Holden
Jorden
Widdowson

Adams
Tutte
Kennedy
Gray

Grimes
JLAA

Edwards, Jones, Amankwaah, BBM, Abadaki.

No place in my team for any of our current loanees (darby aside who has been here from the start) in order to foster team spirit and banish the past, its our future that has to play. My opinion is that if jc goes and LOANS say 3 players this week then it just adds to the current unsettled feeling around the club. If however he can buy 1 (cant imagine that he would have signed without some immediate funds being available) and maybe sign a freebie or 2 then thats different as they would all be part of team rochdale and in it together.

Monkey off the back at last!
at 20:40 11 Sep 2011

I admit that lately I had become a little despondent at our results/performances, and couldnt really see where a win may come from. However during that time as strange as it sounds I only thought we were one win away from getting the confidence that would enable us to go on a run of putting points on the board.

Its clear we have issues in defence, whether this is individually or collectively, I think even though we got the result yesterday, we at times made it harder than need be. I dont believe all our wrongs have been righted after beating our near neighbours, but this win can start the season off for the team again. In many ways Im sure its a monkey off their back, new manager, team, coaches, loss of players and so on.

So well done dale, and SE & FB's first win for us. In my 'non coaching badge' opinion, play like we did for the first 25 mins yesterday, whilst defending that bit better and we will win far more than we will lose from here on in.

Next important appointment later this week!
at 20:21 13 Jun 2011

Wonder who our new gaffer has in mind to be his sidekick? Frankie Bunn has been mentioned on other threads, does anybody have any inside info?

What qualities do we need in our assistant? Steve is going to go through certain learning curves this year, be it dealing with agents or other things he may not have had lots of experience in, in his former role.

I for one hope the assistant is one with bags of experience that Steve can lean on and learn from. Exciting times ahead for us daleys, I cant wait to see how our squad starts to shape up over the next month or so.

Just wondering about fellow daleys thoughts on the above being a potential Dale manager?

Fits CD'S bill in alot of respects, age, experience. He will have contacts both here and in Norway, well respected in the game and by all accounts did a good job at Utd.

Wouldnt have a clue how much hes on at molde or even why he left utd to go back home, but didnt somebody allude to on another thread that norwegion football isnt awash with cash, so he may not be out of reach?

Had the pleasure of bumping into him last night at the Village hotel, I had gone their after our game to meet my utd supporting mates, and around half time whilst outside in he walks. We invited him to have a drink with us as he was waiting for John Lucas to turn up. Have to say hes a really nice bloke and he said he is really enjoying his football at Rochdale, he said that he keeps in touch with players who have left us and they all miss the hilcroft magic.

Re yesterdays game he said all the lads were disappointed but felt that after the saints game that emotionally and mentally they were a little drained, hilcroft had not been to hard on them and had instructed them to wind down and take it easy. As far as the team is concerned they just want to be in with a shot come the bournemouth game, and hes confident they can get the result needed on the last day.

After John turned up we left to let them get on with it, but before leaving I couldnt resist thanking him for that missed penalty v darlo, he saw the funny side but I get the feeling he thought I was a cheeky sod! How refreshing though to meet a footballer whos not up his own arse as the 22 prima donnas are who played at wembley yesterday.

Heavy rain forecast tonight
at 08:56 11 Feb 2011

Just checked the bbc weather (that ever reliable fountain of knowledge) and it has heavy rain forecast in the early hours of the morning. Hope our drains have had chance to clear after all the recent downpours, and that tonight doesnt put what will be a cracking afternoon at spotland tomorrow in doubt.

Whilst on the subject of weather and the pitch I thought it was excellent on Tuesday, after the weather we have had this winter its a credit to the groundsman and board for whatever funds they have made available to spend on it.

2.1 to dale for me tomorrow....FINGERS CROSSED! But will take the draw if need be. Up the dale!

Dales winter break and New signings
at 10:15 22 Dec 2010

Just wondering on what peoples opinions are regarding our enforced winter break?

Will it do us good? We dont have the biggest of squads and Johna isnt a spring chicken. We wasnt on an amazing run, however performed well in the derby v Howdum. Is it better to have this rest and re-group or to have carried on to play our way back to winning ways?

Now then Hilly has stated he wants L1 signings come Jan, and Dunphy has backed him. My Jan sale list to dunphy for what its worth is.....

Goalkeeper, Willing to have a loan tbh for the rest of the season, then looking to recruit our own in the summer. Lillis, Frankie, Ben Amos (utd have signed the danish dude now) so he may be possible, worth asking?

Winger, Atkinson for me, he knows us we know him and he can clearly do the job we would be looking for. I know were getting Adams, and I really dont mind him I think there is still more potential for Hilcroft to get out of him. I reckon we definatley need another though.

Centre Mid, Perkins - we wont get him, but hes the blueprint for the type of player needed to compliment Jones.

Forward, Sadly Redshaw hasnt had the best of luck, obvious pedigree and looked good in patches we have seen him. But he was the right kind of signing, small nippy skilfull player to partner Cog, replace Daggers. Speaking of Daggers, and a thread about his possible return if we could pull it off then fantastic, but a player like him is whats needed in my opinion to get the best from Cog again.

So how many positions do we need to fill? and should we expect and familiar faces to return?
