Roughly 2 points average per game is currently top of the league. So anything approaching 10 points from 5 games should be considered very positive and 8 points is probably par for the course and should allow the club to remain in the playoff positions. In effect, we need at least a couple of wins out of those games. |

JS admitted in the post-match interview to take some blame for the way the team was set up in the first half. Exactly what he should have changed is a matter of debate.
There was a fair amount of frustration in the Loft with the slow pace of build-up by Charles in the first half with very little movement and options for him to pass to. In the second half we seemed to move the ball much quicker.
Where teams now sit off us rather than press us, we don't necessarily seem to have a plan b? There were very few long, raking diagonals from Charles to players out wide.
I thought Saito played with good energy and I find Poku quite frustrating to watch since he always itches to shift the ball on to his left foot. He does have a shot in the locker though. |

Thought he looked more dangerous than Burrell had all game. Shame he missed that one and the keeper somehow kept out his other chance. Let's keep the faith. |

It's unnecessary for fans to know all the detail or Kolli's side of the story. If there was a legitimate grievance, then there is employment law for him to leverage.
The message that was put forward by the club is that the team is more important than the individual. Full commitment to the team success (even if not playing on the pitch) is non-negotiable. Music to most ears. For Kolli fans, let's hope he can take this onboard.

The club itself admitted it was a problem before the season started. It also seems clear the club is trying new strategies to manage fitness (e.g. stronger squad and rotating players/managing minutes played).
One thing i have noticed is our players seem to be asking to come off early rather than try to run off injuries (Jimmy Dunne excepted on Wednesday). That may be the bench instruction to not turn niggles into long-term absences? [Post edited 11 Sep 8:18]

No, but the jury should surely still be out on whether this is endemic to Rangers or a current industry-wide epidemic.
Re. rotation, West Brom have so far used every player in their squad bar one, apparently. It could be our second XI vs their reserves on Saturday. |

Extended highlights show Ronnie and Harvey interplay chemistry in midfield. I would be tempted to keep those two playing 6 and 8 (and have Madsen and Kamara in reserve)
I don't recall Varane ever playing as well in Midfield as Ronnie did on Saturday, and as a 6 he must be behind in the pecking order.
I don't buy the argument that Ronnie is not fast enough to be a defensive midfielder. He really looked like he was enjoying himself out there. [Post edited 26 Aug 23:28]

Agreed, but i think you have to give Rangers some credit for that - we controlled possession (with Charles' addition to the team) - something we have been unable to do for long periods of any match in past seasons. Our defence nullified their wide players and attackers. |

Yes, he is a proven finisher, but there have been a number of opportunities where he started and his all round play was not robust enough for a number 9 in the Championship.
I don't think anyone would argue that he should currently start over Kone/Burrell/Chair in the 9 and 10 spots?
So is it better for him to continue being a bench player or move out on loan to develop as a starter? [Post edited 9 Aug 10:21]

For those commenting on whether Millwall were good in that game, they had the best away record in the Championship last season and one of the meanest defences, so it was unlikely we were going to overwhelm them. Their defenders were excellent at blocking our crosses and last ditch tackles as well as nullifying Kone's physicality. Jensen made a fantastic save to keep out Boy Kemper's header.
There is clearly no magic wand. Many of the players from last season still have their weaknesses and one can only hope they continue to improve. I think having Chair back was a positive given he has not been fit the last two seasons, although not a game-changer from the get-go as some might hope.
It certainly seemed noticeable that we were reluctant to shoot from outside the box and were expected to pass/move a chance in the box. Much of that was orchestrated by Chair. Let's hope his final pass and finishing will get better. |

Boy Kemper not only played well, but looked like he hated losing.
I thought Millwall's defending was excellent. We still edged the match comfortably.
Much too early to write off players based on one performance. |
