I was actually not a fan of Morgan leaving on loan last Jan, because we had absolutely zero options for forward facing midfielders beyond Madsen, especially playing as we did then with a 2 man midfield behind 2 strikers. As it happened Madsen did go down and he ended up filling in and getting 10 odd games in the Championship. I think the difference is that now we have Kamara, but also a system where others have been able to slot into midfield - Vale and Edwards specifically, with Isak maybe doing enough pre season to add a little more peace of mind (I note he was back on the bench against Charlton).
Given that I think the club have looked to retain only the players they feel are genuinely first 11 worthy (with Morrison, Adamson, Lloyd a few necessary depth pieces), Morgan probably didn't do enough at the end of last season to justify him being part of this squad. A year at a really good League One club where he can get 40+ games into him, will take him close to the 100 pro appearance mark, and reveal a lot about where he sits for next season.
Kamara has looked better than I expected. I don't think he will be the goal and assist maker that we'd love to have from CM, but he's so composed and good with the ball, it means not everything goes through Madsen, and they look a good complimentary duo atm... Also he's 30, and outside our usual profile, so big kudos to the club for this one.
Lastly, I think the 'sell if it doesn't work' part is a little more likely than previous because I don't believe any of our top prospects are at their ceilings yet. Madsen *maybe*, but is still relatively young and missed a chunk of last season. All of this depends on them actually being available for the majority of the season, but with almost everyone early-mid 20s, I think the interest will be there - especially if as we all hope, this group can get top 8/10 and improve from last year. |

The number 1 issue at the end of last season, and for this current one too, is around injuries and availability. We can all agree our squad is the best it's been in years, but it's been a noticeable issue for a while now that we've not been able to field our best team regularly enough, if ever.
My question would be that considering there was no communication from the club externally, was there an internal assessment done as to the medical issues from the previous seasons, and what were some of the changes made based on that assessment?
We've seen for ourselves that rotation and managing of minutes was clearly one part of the strategy, but I want to know that this is recognised as a priority issue within the club, and that we've made changes to reflect that.
I think it's also important that we push back on any continued '90% availability' crap. It's a problem, not one that is solely a QPR issue, but in a league of fine margins we suffer worse than most by losing 7 first team players in as many games. |

Spot on, you could see in the video Gab would scribble away occasionally, usually when Clive was making a specific point correcting or updating his own research.
He's a million miles ahead of 99% of EFL twitter in terms of knowledge, but doesn't run his mouth with clickbait nonsense just to get engagement. Big fan and always glad to watch this stuff with Clive, and see him when he's at Loftus Road. |

There will be a lot of playing out from the back, at least to start this season, and that means CBs and midfielders dropping in to receive. As good as he is picking longer passes, we need midfielders that can get it and turn! |

Not quite the CM profile I think we really need, and doesn't seem to be especially good at anything particular, but I like that we've brought in some experience and it's definitely a midfield that needs central / number 6 type depth, something that will be even more important if we move on Varane, or Madsen misses time.
My presumption is that the Fiorentina set up is the system we will start with, which means 433/4123 with someone at the base of the midfield to receive and give quickly to more offensive players ahead - specifically in that system - the 2 number 10s like Chair and Vale. In that scenario, and as part of a squad capable of playing 50 games in a hard season rather than a player that's crucial and needs to play every week, I think it's a solid signing. Fairly boring, but teams beed boring too! |

Saw Odyssey at the Waterloo IMAX and thought it was incredible, not the best film ever, and probably not even top 5 Nolan, but that kind of film in that format is what cinema is all about.
Loved it, looking forward to watching again. |

If we paid a fee and this was a big position of need, I'd be inclined to say that given his relatively constant injury issues, this is not a good one.
As it's a free, with Mbengue and some basic depth at RB already here, and given that he's already got 100 plus PL appearances and is still only 25, I'm inclidned to think that this is an excellent shot to nothing signing.
If he proves the physical side he will be a superb signing and we can get him tied down on another deal, if not, he moves on. All good |

I generally agree, but I don't think it really matters with the manager. Unlike with playerts, if he has a particularly bad run he will be sacked anyway. The more important thing is that his deal runs until past the end of this season, and there's a compensation fee just in case another team come calling while we're doing well.
Pleased with him being locked in though, a huge season ahead for him, Nourry and the board. |

Didn't mention it on the pod as it was more about our season and the player performances, but Hull have just got promoted almost exclusively signing / playing ready made, experienced championship lads. Giles, Ajayi, Egan, McNair, Lundstrum, Crooks, McBurnie... Would any of those be signed for QPR under the current game model?
It's fine to take the approach that a sprinkling of that kind of player is needed, not just preferred, and nowhere is it more important than in goal. It's the one position we should focus on just getting the best possible player, even if that means they're older |

The change in tone is because he doesn't like someone that might ask for accountability at a professional level, but feels he has to include Clive because of his influence with the fanbase.
Clive has a decent audience and will often highlight the more questionable decisions by people running QPR, a lot of which is born from the many decades of chancers and underhanded goings on we've experienced from previous regimes. He also questions people as a profession, so will expose bullshit if given the opportunity, and people like CN hate that.
Linked In Boy is an egotist, but his main agenda is controlling the narrative, this is why he has to suffer Clive, who he can't fully control, and also why he loves / invited Matt Winton, who lets have it right is <REDACTED>. [Post edited 17 May 11:09]

All good, each have been decent in their own way. Hayden especially came at an important time for both spells. It might have been nice to make this announcement before the Derby game, so the crowd could acknowledge them directly. I imagine that's why Nardi started that game, but ho hum....
Also along with Cook, that's 4 players leaving at contract end that's taking a hell of a lot of experience and years in the leagues with them. We keep saying it, but I hope the club has that amongst their criteria when it comes to finding suitable replacements |

Another incredible report, not just 48/48, but probably closer to 1000, and each has been some level of insightful, cathartic, funny, joyous or maddening - giving us all much needed camaraderie as we navigate the curse of following a uniquely dysfunctional club.
I've known you a long time now, and have seen closer than most what goes into this level of consistency. It's a gift for all of us to have someone with your ability and work rate, that I imagine is ten fold for any ex-pats or further flung R's that don't get that weekly fix of seeing QPR live.
While we get to sit back and enjoy, I know you also have to wade through abuse, trolling and pure stalker mentalists, but I think I speak on behalf of 99% of regular readers (hello to the other one) when I reiterate how lucky we are to have one of the best football writers in the country putting out meaningful content just for us. Similar to Dave and AKUTRs, it's another little niche thing that we can point to that separates us, and makes QPR special.
When the tank is low and the little rats chew close to the bone, I hope you can fall back on the knowledge that your work is noticed, appreciated, cherished, celebrated, unrivalled, and to a lot of people, absolutely necessary.

Good report. Was nice to see LR resplendent in the sun while we played well and attacked with the abandon we complained about missing the last few weeks.
Also spot on with injuries. It's a problem, it shouldn't be covered up for the sake of 'optics', or to protect a friendship, etc. It's probably the thing that's cost us more than anything this season, and stopped us knocking on the door of the playoffs with a group of young and sought after players.
It's had a knock on effect not just in league position, but with everything else we're trying to do. Players are not developing and putting a ? next.to their names when it comes to reliability. Young lads like Bennie can't go on loan because they need to cover. The team can't gel.and find consistency and cohesion... You can have the best young prospects in world football, but if they can't get on the pitch, there won't be a player trading model....Own the mistake, make the necessary changes, and FIX IT. We don't care how it looks, we just want to see the team given a chance to succeed. |
