The 2024 relegation thread-oh: Match 44
at 10:01 15 Apr 2024

My head says we will go down, this team have let us down so often. Caveat to that is that we now have a manager who is capable of dragging results out of them so you never know. Win against Preston should be enough, just but our home form is so bad you just know Preston will do one of their shithousing jobs on us.

He's been at QPR for 4 years - how long do we wait?

What about Walsh? He's not a kid and he is either good enough or not.

Yep, it appeared Smyth was playing wingback at various times with Jimmy closer to Dunne which made me nervous. Although JD is not a natural RB he has done a fantastic job and gives another dimension especially with his height from goal kicks and corners/free kicks. We have actually started to score from set pieces. Amazing turnaround from Ainsworth football.

Rio Ferdinand on His Time As an R

Not a fan if Ferdinand, seems bit meh to me. As I remember it his wife at the time was ill so he get some leeway but still he must have been earning some serious money plus he was brought in for a reason and he failed, miserably.

Fantastic human story that and brought a tear to my eye. Shows how far a little humility and kindness can go and the impact it can have. RIP Ray.

This, however this manager seems different and it's pretty obvious he has the players, they believe in him/system etc... It is however the same team, by and large, who have let us down for 2+years. Away Win.

Their inability to run the club well is not in doubt however their willingness to fund is also not in doubt.

Players, agents, club staff get paid too much and need to rein it in. That will result in big clubs dominating, getting more revenue and ultimately become profitable. It will mean that clubs like QPR, who have rich owners are unable to spend and will ultimately continue to lose money hand over fist and eventually walk away. We have been extremely lucky to have owners who are willing to spend 3-400m to keep QPR going. Mad.

Ozzy is a good pro and a decent option, just not for a club in our current position. Suspect he could/should have been moved for small money last season.

Looking/staying up

Leicester are best team in the division but lost last two with Bournemouth in the cup mid-week so not beyond possibility we might get a result. Two home games, both winnable and then Sunderland who look like they are on the beach already.

It's early days but Frey is sloooow however his first touch is pretty good and as been spoken on here his anticipation is best of our striker bunch so overall I think a good addition.

Started supporting QPR in '77 and never got to see him playing but watched all the reels over the years and what a talent, player, maverick. They don't make footballers like him anymore which is such a shame. A life well lived. RIP Stan.

Many thanks. A great and sobering read.

How do we cut costs by 10.8m? I can see reduced wages both on player and staff accounting for maybe 50%? of that but no idea on the rest. I think there is a limit on ground sponsorship revenue too? Payroll is the big cost and always the first and most effective way to reduce losses. Hard to see how we can drop costs by that much given the player outs/in this year. As was mentioned perhaps the hope is we have enough point next year to absorb a points deduction but that is grim.
