He chose SCOTLAND! even had a mock headline of a newspaper calling him McStark!
If memory serves me well a few years later John Barnes was in the enviable posistion of being able to choos England, Scotland or Wales as he applied for a British passport, I think he was born abroad? ..
From the 80s I remember Gary "taff" Bannister who had played briefly for the England U21's about how he was desperate to play for Wales as they offered him a full cap (the rules forbade him at the time) and Vinnie Jones (spit) also played for Wales through some grannie as well.. |

I only found out the score at breakfast this morning as I'm in sunny climes at this time of year...
I gave up caring about this cup competition 14 / 15 years ago when a proven manager like Warnock insulted the paying fans by not caring about it either...

I think my favorite story was a male player was sent off abroad and told the female ref she should stick to the kitchen....
Obviously he got stiffed with an extended ban for his misogyny and part of the punishment was to referee a woman's match....
He duly carried out the game and sent off I think eight players saying to the last one something about the kitchen again.....
Me... personally I don't enjoy listening to female pundits (as lovely as Alex Scott looks) so don't both watching much apart from the highlights and even then until recently it was a chore until Marti took charge |
