Absolutely the right decision to rescind/"suspend" the red card - that was an utterly ridiculous decision to give a red card.

Being based in the US these days I had no interest in the World Cup and zoned it all out.
However, I've since watched most games and been really impressed with the tournament so far (hydration breaks aside). Some very entertaining games (Ecuador vs Ivory COast was a cracker, as was the 2nd half of Holland vs Japan). VAR doing its job and doing it quickly (premier League take note).
The US were on fire against Paraguay and it'll be interesting to see what they do against better teams.
Surprised to see the stadiums so full and cracking atmospheres.
The Dutch fans are magnificent. With their party bus shipped from Holland to the masses of partying Dutch in Dallas in a sea of orange they have been superb. |

That is a typical legal statement. Reading between the lines I would say it appears Saints are getting ready to litigate bases on advice they have been given.
This is why, imo, they are being quiet unlike the efl leaks, etc.
If you look at the oped from a retired very senior judge you'll see he thinks ks we have a very strong legal case.
Adam Blackmore is an idiot with his high horse comments. He seriously thinks this incident is more damning for Saints than the Higgins situation?

Honestly, the punishment was the most ridiculous thing to happen in football for many a year. Completely OTT - and you know what, part of the reason I like Eckert so much is his unquenchable desire to win.
He overstepped and made a mistake (but lets not kid ourselves that other teams don't do exactly the same thing) but the hysterical reaction (including from Adam bloody Blackmore and Alfie House) has been nothing short of comical. You'd have thought we had bribed referees and opposition and broken the legs of key opposition players.
In some respects I had mixed feelings about Saints going back to the Premier League. I really hate that League and the Chamiponship is far more fun.
Whether I think that after Saints bow to the ugly mob and force Eckert out and we end up with a no mark manager and spiral down again is a different matter! |

Take the EFL o the cleaners. Talk about a punishment far beyond the pale: absolutely disgusting.
That's not excusing Saints behavior: they knew the rules and broke them. But this judgement is ridiculous and yet clubs like City and Chelse get away with blatant cheating.
Football is a f'ing joke and Gibson and Bor can go do one.

I just hope we can keep hold of him. He is clearly headed for the top: from the moment he took over as interim you could see he had something about him.
He (and his team) have totally transformed the club from a depressing mess into a cohesive 'all for one, one for all' mentality and they fight like hell for each other.
I think we have too much to do to get promoted this season (after the awful start under Still) but we can feel pride in our team again. It's a pity about our start becuase, as today showed, we could hold our own in the Prem now there is a sense of belief. |

Absolutely he should be our manager next season come what may.
35 points from 20 games, not afraid to play the youngsters, seems to have rebuilt the cohesiveness of the club and seems to genuinely care about the club.
We can't keep chopping and changing managers - we've seen we end up with bloated squads, mediocre managers and a very dysfunctional club.
While he's still learning it was clear from the moment he took interim charge that he had something about him. |

Anyone with half a brain (that excludes most on SaintsWeb!) can see that he has the potential to be an excellent manager. He clearly has the players playing for him and is a very quick learner.
To take this squad from where they were to 10 wins in 19 games is quite incredible. EVen during the 7 games without a win we only lost 3.
And I don't doubt for a minute that what he said after not comng out from the dressing room for an hour had a galvanizing effect on the squad - they've been a very different team since that game.
And I've no doubt his team talk had a significant effect tonight. |

Far too sensible Tonyfromdk - we have to continue the clear out in the summer and make some solid additions and go for promotion next year.
Today was a sign that after the Hull debacle that things have somewhat changed - players playing with heart and passion whcih has been missing for far too long.
I thought TE got it pretty spot on today - grafters in the starting eleven and mixing the playing style up. Fellows was very poor when he came on. I may be in a minority but I think he will be a very good manager for us. No point trying to debate that with the absolute tools on Saintsweb mind.
If we had a clinical striker we'd be far higher in the League. Armstrong just needs far too many chances to convert one. With a decent striker we would have been clear winners today. |

Fellows has been absolutely awful since he came back from injury (as has Azaz recently). Both give the ball away very cheaply and deserve to be dropped.
An interesting side to put out but will reserve judgement until after the game. WHo knows: it could be a disaster or a master stroke. |

Really tragic news. Growing up he was my idol along with Gordon Greenidge, Trevor Jesty and Chris Smith.
I'll never forget one day at Northlands Road. Myslef and a couple of mates were allowed to operate the small scoreboard by the members pavilion. I think it was a Sunday League match, but SMithy was at bat and hit the most ferocious square cut I have ever seen in my life. The ball was still rising as it hit the top of the scoreboard.
I can't recall if it was him or Trevor Jesty but there was Minor COUnties match and one of them hooked the ball and it went straight through the window of one of the flats next to the ground. Cue the owner (a woman) stomping across the outfield as mad as hell.
Simpler, and more enjoyable, times.

Your post on Nov 2 was spot on Dirk. Tonda has since given us 2 wins on the bounce with almost no time to make significant changes. But the tweaks he made have made a significant difference and it was noticeable on Saturday we were breaking at pace (and with several players) until we got to 2-0 up and then eased off.
I found some of the play (until 2-0) to be quite scintiallting and something we have been missing for a very, very long time.
I don't see the rush to appoint a new manager and I just have a feeling Tonda has something about him. And it may free up the pathway to the first team for our Academy. IT would have been so easy for him to bring on Aribo at HT (despite being a lazy, disinterested player) yet he stuck to his convictions and brough on an 18 year old for his debut and who did not let anyone down. |

He can't possibly continue after that. The Scienze-Stephens sub was unforgivable and a sackable offence right there and then. It was obvious to everyone what would happen after that sub. And the Fraser sub was abysmal when you have a young striker who knows where the net is sat on the bench.
He has to be gone tonigh and bring Ralph back in. |
