Which League Two clubs have impressed you this season?
at 10:36 19 Apr 2024

Couldn't agree more Durham, in the games I've seen, none of the top three have particularly impressed me this season. It might seem churlish not to choose them, but even FGR's 5-0 battering of the U's was more about us falling apart than them being that good. If it counts, I'd have to say Hammers U21s?

In a season interrupted by train strikes and postponements, Notts County will be #9 for me - might make double figures if I choose to travel over for the Crewe game. Of those, most enjoyable was definitely Crawley (a), followed closely by Swindon (a) and the start of the Cowley revolution.

Sh't rule which shows how far the FA and their darlings in the Premier League have absolute contempt for the rest of the football pyramid. The magic of the cup my f'cking arse!

I watched all of it, and apart from the somewhat clunky presentation, I thought it was pretty good. The Cowley's outlining their strategy was very welcome, and Robbie's plans for the under pitch drainage were welcome to hear. He was also as tactfully discrete as he could be about some of the issues outside the stadium that are largely beyond our control.

No doubt certain factions in our support base will pick up on a few things, particularly Robbie refusing to commit to a 7/9 year plan, that will definitely get them hot under their collars. But I agree, long term aspirations are not only empty words, but definitely hostages for fortune for those who would inevitably come back and say "ha - you failed".

We all know that our goal has to be promotion back to League 1 - you don't need the chairman to say it to know that. However, it was good that he didn't put that burden of expectation on Danny and Nicky to achieve it.

Time for a Party?
at 13:46 18 Apr 2024

LOL - looks like it's Hooters TOOT. If Noah can pull it off (so to speak), we'll be fine.

The midweek show (and other sources) said over 500 tickets sold yesterday (yesterday morning according to my other source), and considering supporters can pay on the day for this one, could be north of 800 on Saturday?

Mariners gutted by Super U's at the JCS
at 22:44 16 Apr 2024

...and now, we're in the world where Sutton have to win their last two games, home against local rivals Crawley Town who need to cement their play-off aspirations, and away against MK Dons who need to assure their 4th place finish for home advantage. It's a tough ask, but they can't afford to drop a point. If they do, it's goodnight Vienna.

There's nothing to really celebrate about being the 22nd worst team in this league, but I'll celebrate like it's the title if we achieve it!

It's all about survival and moving on next season under the Cowleys.

It's been too tense to post anything mid-game, but what a battling performance from the U's. A sublime finish from Tom in the first half, but eclipsed by Akinde's total game, and what a goal to seal it. Thoroughly deserved his MoM award. Any one who thought (me included) that Grimsby would be on the beach, we had to withstand huge pressure from them second half. In previous games, and certainly under different regimes, we would have folded, but this team is made of sterner stuff.

Magnificent result, on to Notts County now - Up the U's!

Strong line-up. Shame for Noah, he did nothing wrong on Saturday, but we're playing a different team and different style than Crawley, so I can understand why he'd want Akinde's strength on the pitch to start with.

Reds, left red faced by DC's blue and white army at Broadfield Stadium
at 22:12 13 Apr 2024

Great to see you both too Noah and TOOT, and what a fantastic away day - and I have a photo of Noah enjoying the aforementioned over-priced 99.

Excellent battling performance, despite (again) very poor officials, thoroughly deserved the three points, and the very late consolation goal for the Creepies did little to dampen the celebrations of the magnificent Faithful! T'other Noah had an excellent game, but hats off to Tom Hopper, probably one of the hardest working but most underrated Col U players - deserved and should have had his hat-trick.

All eyes are now on Tuesday - 1pt and FGR are gone, 3pts and Sutton are circling the drain. And then on to Meadow Lane - see you both there!

Crawley (a) 13th and Notts County (a) 20th April
at 09:17 12 Apr 2024

Update from Crawley Town - there will be no ticket sales on the day for away supporters, so if you haven’t already, get your ticket from the Col U ticket office before 2pm today. I imagine they’ll take these to Crawley for collection, as it’s too late to post them out. We are approaching 1,000 sold already apparently.

Highly unlikely, the empty seats were all congregated in one of the West stands, and pretty much as a block. As far as I’m concerned, definitely player/ staff freebie tickets for friends and family.

Anyone know if McGeehan will be suspended again?
at 19:32 10 Apr 2024

Hadn't thought about the second yellows for his two red cards, but that would be harsh if they were counted - players could be suspended for both red cards and cumulatively yellows if that applied. The other rule is they only count in the competition they were received, but as all of Cam's were in the league, it's moot really.

Just another update via the ticket office this morning, we'd sold over 750 tickets for Crawley at that point, so with pay on the days, I'm expecting there to be about a thousand on Saturday.

That was the reason, another red card (his 3rd) would have lead to a 4 match ban and we'd lose him for most of the rest of the season. I think the next disciplinary milestone for yellow cards is a 3 match ban if you reach 15 yellows by week 38, so hopefully he's more or less safe from that?

Hatters to lose their heads in defeat to DC's blue and white army at the JCS
at 22:45 9 Apr 2024

That one was hard to take - to be honest we were much better tonight than we were against Wrexham, and against an infinitely better opponent too. But still we came up short yet again. Everyone will focus on Goodman's error, and McGeehan's penalty, and that is totally relevant, but don't overlook it was Goodman who kept us in the game before that, and McGeehan who got us back in the game after that. Just really hard to take - another game against promotion-elects, another game we showed our potential, but another game we came out with nothing. I guess that's the difference between top of the table and bottom of the table teams.

Fortunately, FGR and Grimsby both lost as well, and so another game is ticked off. Sutton and FGR have three games left, Grimsby four (one against the U's) and we have five. At present, we have to make up one point on Sutton with five games to go compared to their three.

IT'S STILL IN OUR HANDS!!!

I would imagine they were 'sold' in the sense that they weren't available to be purchased, so probably more concession tickets which had been given out but not taken up. The North Stand had netting over the front two rows as well, meaning another 200+ unavailable (not that Wrexham needed them in the end, they were still nearly 400 below the reduced North Stand capacity).
