Has he any less experienced than Jim McNulty when he took over?
Think he has a reputation as an ambitious up coming coach. Seems to be cut from the same cloth as McNulty. Plays a similar style but with a bit more tempo. Also seems to be a players coach so shouldn't upset the balance in dressing room too much. That would have been my fear with someone like Robinson.
Any manager is a gamble but I am cautiously optimistic with Watson [Post edited 9 Jun 13:23]

I think we are a completely different club than we were the last time we were in the league, then we were are club in decline and on the back of four or five poor seasons.
Now we have new life and some momentum. There is no reason why we shouldnt hold our own in div 2. We have the backbone of a good squad and if quality can be brought it to replace those released then we should be looking at top half of the table.
The ambition of the owners was to build the team up with quality to get promoted in three seasons with a team good enough to compete in league 2. That has come a year earlier and i think the owners will adjust the budget accordingly.
I get that the last third was not good but injuries , congestion and pressure all had a handin that, overall last year we showed more than enough to compete against league two sides. 23 points off the top 7 clubs indicates that.
Momentum is massive in football and as a club we need to maximise on the momentum off last season. We can’t think that getting back into the EFL is job done. I don't think for one moment anyone at the club does either. The update from the owners shows the ambition for the club off the field. They are not going to cut corners on the field.
I think jim has a great opportunity to continue his development as a coach. I think it will need to be a good opportunity for him to move on. We are a different club from when burton came sniffing, jims desire to leave will not be as great |

They don’t actually tell you the maximum tickets you can buy. They allocate the seats let you go all the way through to put your bank details and then tell you you have exceeded the limit. Even then you are left to guess how many you can buy |

I looked at avanti for an adult and a child for sunday. £169 was the cheapest available. Could be reduced to £96 if you bought a family rail pass.

Total bollocks to say the pitch invasion didn’t contribute , it gave york players time to compose themselves. Dale players were cramping the last thing they needed was three or four minutes stood around while they clear the idiots off the pitch.
York still may have scored, but i cant help that so called fans jeopardised our chance of promotion and thats a hard pill to swallow [Post edited 25 Apr 17:33]

100 percent agree with the point about the injuries having effect.
At the turn of the year we had played 22 games and scored 52 points. But that was over a five month period with Beckwith, the only real injury llng term injury. Mani d was also out a short while.
Between the 17th January (our first league game of 2026) and Saturday we played 22 games and scored 50 points, that in a period of just over 2 1/2 months. That will have contributed to the injuries and tiredness we are seeing, and if anything we should be applauding the playing staff for maintaining the high standards.
Yes there is frustration in the drop of in form at the wrong time of the season but that doesn’t justify some of the levels of criticism thats been given.
Credit also needs to be given to York who have sustained a relentless pursuit and kept the pressure on. If a few close results had gone our way they may have fell away. The four games that spring to mind are York v Hartlepool, Rochdale v Scunthorpe, Morecambe v York, Halifax v York. 3 late goals and a ref cock up that had the luck had fallen our way would have put us well clear, before the injuries/ form struck. Who knows York may have lost momentum, instead its been with them since.
However football is not what ifs! Any of us would would have taken this position at the start of the season, and while we do need to reflect on the factors that have caused us to fall away slightly, that is for another time. Everyone should be focused on what positive contributions they can make to ensure we can get two more positive results. [Post edited 13 Apr 17:21]

Prior to the Halifax game we were limiting teams chances due to the defensive work of the midfield and the wide players.
Players like Gilmour, Toni and Prichard were breaking down attackes before they got to the back three. The replacements have just not been effective defensively. gordon has certainly suffered a lack in form since Tobi has been absent.
We play a very high line and if the midfield and wide players don’t press it allows teams to hit us in the break putting the back three under pressure. The second and third goals yesterday were came from players arriving into the box and not being tracked.
I firmly believe getting our first 11 back defending as a team will improve results. The energy that players like Gilmour, Tobi and Prichard bring is bound to be missed. I cant see what else has changed in the last month that has caused a team to concede 17 goals since halifax? [Post edited 5 Apr 19:15]

I firmly believe a team with Rowling and Gilmour in makes us stronger defensively and we are more than a match for all but York.
No coincidence that the drop in gordons form has come at the same time as rowling being out, and East and Gilmour are still a better midfield defensively.
We are still dominating possession and and creating chances. What we are not doing is limiting the opposition like we were.
Get those players back and this season is far from over. We havent got 98 points by luck. |
