Southampton 1 v 2 Liverpool FA Premier League Tuesday, 17th May 2022 Kick-off 19:45 |
I_would added 21:59 - May 17 Lyanco should have been playing every match possible and would be a better Captain than Joggy Joggy The Invisible Man. silverspringsaint added 22:50 - May 17 Even with a lot of first teamers out, Liverpool were on a different level when it came to speed of thought and movement. KWP probably one of the few Saints who could get in that team. Redmond did well - frustratingly he so really does justice to his talents. Midfield was non-existent, did Diallo touch the ball? It was all very hopeful getting up to Broja who had a few runs. No real link play there - I continue to think that Tella is too lightweight. Defence wasn’t terrible though the usual suspects were caught napping a couple of times. Cannot have been a bigger gap between the sides when it was about quality of goalkeeper distribution than in this game! Poor stuff from McCarthy … Block8 added 22:55 - May 17 Poor team selection and tactics, Redmond was excellent but we had a stronger bench than team! No real out ball with only one up front, although couldn't fault the effort of those that started. When you looked at the Liverpool starting team thought, hey we have a chance here but then saw our starting eleven and my hopes faded! JWP totally invisible, did he miss Romeu or is his mind elsewhere?? claus5 added 23:19 - May 17 Lyanco and Stephens are the 2 worst cb's i have ever seen at our club. We sold Yoshida and now we have this utter shit, something needs doing about this situation. Who the bloody hell coaches them? steadyeddie added 23:39 - May 17 SanMarco added 00:26 - May 18 Pitiful stuff. Liverpool B team strolled around and had it all there own way. We were pathetic from start to finish. I hadn't realised Elyounoussi was playing until his near-post flick on that set up the winner. I reckon we could do with getting rid of most of the players I saw tonight (not that we will get much for them), KWP the honourable exception. Also, sadly, I have totally lost confidence in the manager. He really does seem clueless. Let's get someone in able to deal with the players he actually has rather than those in this fantasy football squad. Pretty awful night to be a Saint. SaintPaulVW added 07:31 - May 18 Sort of OK. Seemed to go missing after scoring the first goal. Redmond and Minamino's goals were both great shots. The headed goal a bit of a duffer to let in. Thought our shape looked unbalanced, Tsimikas was left unmarked for most of the second half as the back 5 slid across and Eli seemed to tuck in. Several fraught conversations between KWP and Eli. Did the crowd turn on McCarthy seemed a lot of booing at the same time as his poor kicks? If so, not too sure what it was meant to achieve. Thought the subs came too late. Once again reactive rather than proactive. Lyanco and Salisu looked good, Diallo I don't think is going to make it - looked a passenger and his reactions are still too slow. Broja looked better but a 20 year old lone striker was always going to struggle. Oh well, we're safe. COYR OoohTerryHurlock added 09:03 - May 18 No longer gutted to lose games like this, It’s become the norm. I remember a time, way back in the 70’s, 80’s and 90’s when we used to play with determination, passion and pride. What we lacked in skill, we made up for with sheer grit. We would run for 90 minutes every single game, and wear the badge with pride. Unfortunately, all of that has long gone. If we are to relive past glories, then we must have a mass clear-out. That clear-out HAS to start with Ralph and ALL of his coaching staff. After that, we must get shot of the deadwood in the squad. I’m hoping that Forest don’t get promoted, as I’d love to see Steve Cooper as our next manager. Fingers crossed 🤞🻠SWH1748 added 23:39 - May 18 Square pegs in round holes Ralph. No Left back then why not put KWP there like you have all season when you should not have and play Valery a right back in his position. Redmond had a great game but he is not a defender. Broja has done nothing since the transfer hype in January so why is he in ahead of Adams. Diallo ahead of Romeu ??? Where do I begin on that one, Romeu should imo be our captain. Still one more day out and another season will be done. The board needs to have a clear out and No not Ralph, but his back room staff, how the hell can all our first team coaches be ex goalkeepers. Try and attract Steven Davis back from Rangers as a player coach, mainly for a coach but he would not let us down as a sub to help change games, that is if Ralph made a substitution. Give Ralph the backing for the signings he wants and let’s go again, if nothing changes after that then before the winter transfer window then the big sackin must come. GRIM added 10:22 - May 19 Well we might be in the Premier lge for another season but that's all. With Ralph in charge & the current squad we cannot survive at that level for much longer. Most (not all) other Premier Clubs have progressed while Saints have regressed. We only survived by the skin of our teeth this season thanks to a couple of other teams faltering. FEAR is the problem at St Marys, Ralph does not believe in himself or the squad. Even after 37 games he just does not know his best team or best system to play. Ralph, listen, it's simple play your best players in their best position, stop trying to be too clever, most of our players struggle at this level playing in their best position so they have no chance if played out of position. Ralph set the team up to play Liverpool assuming we were going to get beat so attempted minimise the damage by playing deep & after we scored go even deeper. Suicidal tactics against the quality Liverpool have. You could see & feel the FEAR in Ralph's face & over the season he has installed that FEAR into the players. They are now afraid to receive the ball, they are afraid they will make a mistake. Opposition can sense & smell the FEAR in Saints so go for our jugular. Apparently we have Goalkeeping coaches plus Dead Ball situation coaches. We'll get rid of them because they are not doing their job. McCarthy getting beaten at his near post again. Then conceding again from a corner, What , our smallest player JWP (bless him) trying to mark Liverpools tallest player, come on you wouldn't see that at the park on a Sunday morning. Thank god the season is all but finished & let's hope next season gives us a fearless manager & a team full of fearless players. You need to log in to participate in Your Report | Your Report
