So do you think Gomis will be playing alongside Bony? Can't see that happening too often as it would require a fairly significant overhaul of the system we play.
Much more likely, IMO, that we'd get a second striker who is quite similar in style to Bony and look to the likes of Michu / Emnes / Hernandez etc. to link up with them. |
Aye...Bony will miss a lot of games through African cup won't he?....and I assume we think he will be offski next summer, so looks like succession planning maybe. Plus, apart from right back so far we have tried to bolster all our major weaknesses. Sounds like a plan to me. [Post edited 7 Jul 2014 12:19]

Henrique Hilario is an international and cup-winning goalkeeper, maybe we should have signed him? Fabianski was underwhelming at best during his time at Arsenal.
Gomis looks good but severely lacks pace and that's only going to get worse as he ages. We've spent big on a player who is essentially a lesser version of Bony.
Marvin Emnes is a squad player who hopefully won't see much playing time.
If you can honestly look at our dealings (and rumoured dealings) so far this summer and tell me there's a plan then you're a hell of a lot more optimistic than me. |

I'm not writing them off it's a fact that Fabianski was underwhelming at Arsenal and it's a fact that Gomis isn't quick. They're both talented players but I'm just questioning if they're the best fit for us.
I've got no problem with the appointment of Monk if the board truly believed he was the best man for the job. I have my concerns over whether they truly searched the field for the best possible candidate but I'm willing to give him the chance he deserves. |  | | |

To be fair there's a bit of a difference between signing a free agent and actively targeting another team's player who will fit your system. |

In reference to your previous post, I'm thinking that possibly the Davies, Michu and Gylfi deals are all linked. I could be way off base here, but it could be that:
We're waiting to see if Michu is going to leave, then we'll want Gylfi as part of the deal for Ben. Better to get Gylfi now (if possible) than after selling Ben, because Levy is well known for being difficult to deal with. If Michu stays, then we sell Davies for cash and don't sign Gylfi. |  |

I don't think that's off base at all, that's perfectly reasonable logic.
All the signs suggest Michu is leaving. If we manage to get Gylfi plus around £3-4m for Ben then we've played an absolute blinder. | | | |
