A massive kick up the arse for Wales and its people is needed. 12:05 - May 9 with 8066 views | Jackfath | She added: "The people of Scotland have spoken. They have placed their trust in the SNP to represent them in Westminster as well as Holyrood. "These 56 SNP MPs will represent the interests of all in Scotland." She called the SNP's victory in Scotland "unprecedented" in UK politics and added: "People voted for an SNP manifesto that had ending austerity as its number one priority. That is the priority these men and women will now take to the very heart of the Westminster agenda. "It cannot and will not be business as usual when it comes to Westminster's dealing with Scotland. "My message today to Westminster is this - Scotland's voice will be heard in Westminster now more loudly than it has ever been before." Wales - soon to be a marginalised third world country. Why oh why are the Welsh so slow to wake up to what is going on.

A massive kick up the arse for Wales and its people is needed. on 16:25 - May 10 by CopperJack | That's exactly what Labour have done in Wales. Centralised all the wealth. Made widespread cuts (contrary to what most people believe, education/health etc are devolved). They can't afford to keep hospitals open, yet they never seem to be short of money to build another narcissitic vanity project in Cardiff, whether its taking our cricket team, spending billions on St Davids/Cardiff Bay/new BBC HQ. People in Wales need to wake up but they need to realise the biggest exploitation is done by our own government, but people keep voting them in because Thatcher closed the mines 30 odd years ago. It's absurd. We have had a devolved government for over 15 years. It's time to stop pointing the finger at Westminster and England. The problems lie at home with Welsh Labour |
Someone said during the election that Welsh Labour are the poster boys for Labour UK. No one outside Wales sees the almost corrupt centralisation of investment. All they see is Labour always in power, running the Assembly because they keep being voted back in by the Welsh electorate so the assumption is they're doing a good job. And they'll just keep on doing it because we also keep telling them, by voting them back in, how good a job they are doing.

Wales is shutting it's last remaining nuclear plant down whilst the rest of the world is seeing sense and investing in it. Wind farms and tidal lagoons are not the answer people. |
Well according to trampie we have so much electricity we can export it... but he doesn't know who too.

A massive kick up the arse for Wales and its people is needed. on 18:19 - May 10 by trampie | Who do you think, that country the other side of Offa's Dyke that has 50 million users and has had to buy it off the French before now to keep the lights on, we might be able to come to a commercial agreement with them, they pay or they run the risk of their lights going out, we make more than enough for ourselves and would be able to sell the surplus. |
Absolute bollocks......as I've said there are at least 8 new nuclear stations being built in England in the next 15 yrs.....each one with the capacity to power at least 3.5 million homes. Yes we at the moment buy electric off the French, but that will end when the new generation of new nuclears are built......and even if it wasn't do you honestly think we'd be able to compete with the likes of EDF. Also the only major power station i can think of in Wales is Aberthaw, which is on it's last legs and will close in about 10 years.

Yes they have around 58 nuclear power stations compared to 9 I think it is in the UK and it was the UK that had the first Atomic/ nuclear station in europe at windscale which is now called sellafield. [Post edited 10 May 2015 18:56]

Sadly for trample ,England would survive unscathed if wales went alone. Incredible some think otherwise. If scots go, I d suggest Wales doesn't become too fractious as it would be shafted by big monster. Wales is virtually a nonentity to many English people and mainly seen as a holiday place . Talks away English visitors to North Wales and any electric sales would be tiny 😕in comparison. Surreal stuff.

Couldn't agree more. Most people in Wales don't even see the corruption of Welsh Labour, they're too busy pointing the finger at Thatcher/Cameron/England/Westminster, basically anyone apart from their own government. Absurdly corrupt government who have run this country into the ground. But like you say, they're allowed to get away with it because people keep voting them in despite the fact they spend every penny of our taxes in Cardiff. It's becoming like the Scots, if you whip up people's sense of nationalism, you can get away with anything, and Welsh Labour must be laughing themselves silly that they keep getting re-elected

Well said. People need to wake up and stop thinking labour represent the so-called working classes. Labour want to keep people down and for them to have no hope or aspirations....that way labour wins in Wales.......sadly. [Post edited 10 May 2015 21:09]

It suddenly struck me yesterday that, because I see Labour not governing in the interests of the whole of Wales what difference if the Conservatives were voted in. Stephen Crabbe said that's their/his target from now. If they were running the Assembly would things be worse ? I never thought the idea of accepting a Conservative run Assembly would be okay with me but would that not be what finally breaks the stalemate of Labour ALWAYS being voted in simply because of the name of the party.

I may have posted this before, but this website shows how the national grid is currently generating electricity capacity from all sources, including through the interconnectors with Ireland and continental Europe. http://www.gridwatch.templar.co.uk/ At time of posting, the French were providing 6.2% of total power supply through the ICT. Sometimes, this shows power going the other way too, but less often. Domestically, Gas was generating nearly 30%, nuclear 23% and coal 21%. It must be windy offshore as that was giving nearly 14% of total power generation. A great website for geeks!

Of course people from affluent beginnings are not more intelligent (although I dispute your point that all of Labour's top leaders are from that). However, there is one factor which at some point needs to be addressed. We have a lot of people at the moment across the various parties that are fairly wealthy. I believe that one of the reasons for this is we don't pay MPs anywhere near enough to attract the very best talent. That leaves two options - one is people that don't need the money and second is people for whom earning £70k or whatever it is a year is a big deal. Uncomfortable as it may be for a lot of people, people that regard £70k per year as good enough to stop them wanting to go into the private sector are not at the top of the pile. People who manage a middle size supermarket get more money than that. People who run an NHS Trust get a lot more than that. Headteachers get more than that. You will get people who have a genuine vocation attracted to it, but there aren't very many of those around. In order to attract the best talent (which should be what we want) you have to pay them accordingly. You shouldn't be able to become 'rich' by being an MP, but it should be enough that people are able to forgo the alternatives. As part of that, of course, this whole nonsense about expenses and all the other bits and bobs should be stopped. Do we really want a situation where the head of Swansea Council gets more money than the prime minister?

No wealth has nothing to do with inteligence. Opportunity will effect knowledge and experience but and greater greater wealth may mean better opportunities, but rich people aren't smarter than poor people.
