I was at that game and very pissed off as wanted him to be playing the whole match but when he came on he really did show his class and was wonderful to see.
As others have said, one of the best wingers and as in the commentary said one of the best crossers of the ball. and he proved it
Legend

Being in my mid teens at the time in spite of knowing we had some very good players. it's only after you realise just how good they really were. even Stan use to get some stick from the R's fans, not anywhere near what Mick Leach got unfairly, but I don't think I every heard a moan about DT you wanted him to have the ball all the time, must admit his shooting was not so hot and did not score a lot, which was strange for a player who really could put the ball on a sixpence.
Very sad to hear this news, obviously DT was well before my time, but when I went to my first game at LR there was in the match day programme an interview with him - I remember him talking about how he liked playing with socks around ankles and after he left us for Wolves??? 0 The manager demanded he pull his socks up and he hated his time there and was moved on fairly quickly.
All the best to Dave horrendous thing to be under going.

He did play briefly for Wolves (Wiki says 10 games in 79-80) after Everton.
Bob Latchford certainly did love him. I think Latchford got 30 goals in Dave's first season there and I'd wager that he created at least half.

Just read the Dec edition of Four Four Two magazine. Bob Latchford gets to choose his Perfect XI. Dave gets in alongside players such as Shilton, Hoddle, Keegan and Trevor Francis: "He could do all the things Hoddle could do - but at high speed. He beat people for fun." If only we had a player like that now...
One of our best all time players. Look at his movement down the wing, perfect centre of gravity and in that Everton game Latchford barely has to move, DT places it perfectly time after time. Loved watching him play, such style, no shin pads, like a gazelle down that wing. No one could touch him.
