I watched the last episode of line of duty and thought that was good. Undercover has finally grabbed by attention. I quite like some of the investigative programmes Stacey Dooley does. However I can't wait for the next series of people just do nothing.

Friends have been going on about Ripley (based on book/film The Talented Mr Ripley) so I watched the first episode.. thought it was absolute shite. Zero chemistry between the characters, Andrew Scott plays Ripley as kind of creepy with Aspergers (why the fck Dicky Greenlief would befriend him I don't know) and then they really jump the shark with Eliot Sumner (Sting's daughter, but identifies as non-binary) playing Freddie Miles, with a deeeep voice..

Can't watch any more of it. If you've seen the brilliant original film, this is a travesty. IMHO, of course.

Cheers clearly one to avoid.

I'll just keep re-watching The Sopranos thanks.

Agree with all of that.

Plus the decision to film it in black and white makes no sense to me. The Italian sunshine and scenery was the perfect backdrop to their indolent lifestyle of basked-in beauty. Filming it in b&w robs the series of that stage.

Needed a dystopian sci-fi fix and currently ploughing through The 100. Earth has been nuked and space station survivors return. Not sure how they commissioned seven seasons but I'm all in 😁 brain dead nonsense and addictive.

I started watching 'Another life' with Katee sackhoff ages ago and forgot I was watching it; I gave it another go after seeing there was a second series and I'm half way through season 2.

It's what I would call an enjoyable romp. Battlestar Galactica it is not and the effects are not as good as Galactica's even though the oldest are over 20 years old.
It also has a cameo from the President's Assistant in Galactica and Saul Tigh's Wife as an alien.

Just finished 'Painkillers' with Matthew Broderick on Netflix. All about the Opioid crises in America, and the man/company that caused it.
The only word I can use is gobsmacked to describe my feeling when watching. Highly recommended, especially if you don't know much about how it came about, like me.

Don't watch, however, if you're liable to bouts of anger regarding greed, wealth accumulation etc.

This story has been told a couple of times already and by all account Dopesick is the one to watch but do so only if you want to go to bed angry.

Just finished the second season of Tokyo Vice on iPlayer. Pretty far-fetched but still looks great and Tozawa-sama is a cracking villain.

That’s the problem with long gaps between series : you have to pretty much watch the whole of the first series again to remember what it was about before starting the second series.

So we’re going to drop you right back into a complicated time-slipping story (Outer Range) right where we left you four years ago. And we’re going to film the first twenty minutes in darkness. Bvgger that, life’s too short.

Big fan of this too. Variable quality but always interesting, and when it's good it is really good.

Some of my favourite episodes:

- 12 days of christine. One of my favourite half hours of tv ever. Ive watched it loads of times and still love it. Loads of clever clues to whats going on sprinkled throughout, very creepy, and a real emotional punch, pretty much perfect tv. Gives me chills, the final scenes have so much pathos. Sheridan Smith is superb and really sells it.
- the devil of Christmas. Another Christmas episode but couldn't be more different. So grimy, so bleak, so good
- riddle of the sphinx. Very clever writing. Apparently they set the guardian crossword that week to coincide with the show.

ITV’s Red Eye

I watched thinking a murder caper set on a plane wouldn’t work but it really does.
Fair few scenes filmed around West London an all.

Not bad

The documentary on Jlloyd Samuel on Netflix was really bizarre. For all the intrigue about his personal life, what was all the stuff about diamonds and were the mystery investors ever pursued? Jay Bothroyd came over very well though.

Yeah I saw this, very weird film, dunno about well, more of a case that the only person to come out of it not looking a complete cnt was Jay Bothroyd IMO. And in a way, I can feel sympathy for JLS, clearly being manipulated and screwed over by vampires. But he also made bad decisions. Sad.

The way Netflix can make these open-ended, provides no answers but here's the gossip type films is incredibly annoying and by the end, I did feel it was a waste of time. Would rather have watched an Air Crash Investigation type film into the crash and what caused the car to burst into flames, not that I think there was any foul play likely. We got an hour of gossip and rumour instead. Frustrating.

Mrs SH reckons the Iranian is a ladyboy. She found it far more entertaining than I did.

Thanks for the tip, that sounds right up my alley.

A shout out for the new series of Rebus, currently airing on the BBC. I think it has been excellent so far.

There's a Netflix series they paid a celebrity run production company a fortune for called Crime Scene: The Vanishing at the Cecil Hotel.

It's held up in the industry as the absolute worst example of everything you've just said there. A deplorable, gossipy, poorly fact checked piece of crap, sensationalising the death of a young girl and turning it into basically an episode of Scooby Doo.

This isn't me recommending it clearly but from a media studies POV if you want the absolute embodiment of the trash they pump into the system at times... that's it. Comes up at the conferences I attend constantly as basically a total disasterclass.

I'm a bit late to the party as the second season has just been released, but Colin from Accounts is a very funny Australian comedy (which tbf is a rare thing). Not sure if available in the UK but it's on a streaming service called Binge here. Those who sail the high seas would be able to get it I'm sure.
