PS it was the USA under Dubya which decided to put an air base in Kyrgyzstan up to 2014, signed a strategic agreement with Georgia, took down Russia's pal Saddam, and which under Obama wanted to remove Russia's pal Assad - not the EU. Only if you see things through the euro paranoia spectacles.
All over Europe the grown-ups see a Russian threat (quite direct for countries in the east) and a US President/CinC openly saying that he's not willing to send US troops to defend NATO allies in Europe. He wants us to "pay more" which seems to mean handing over cash but the US being in total control.
EU govts are working towards a military alliance independent of the US with EU branding. If you think the EU is a colonial power you may say "Look! A foreign army!" But if you see the EU as a way for Europeans to be independent of Russia/USA/China etc it's no different from seeing French troops with NATO stars or UN blue berets. | | | |
