And to start with, one from CliveWilsonSaid with the following comment
"Here's one from an emerging artist i'm not sure i've seen mentioned on here. Not entirely my thing music wise but she seems a bit special. Peace all."
"The opposite of love, after all, is not hate, but indifference."
Officially, this belongs in the "progressive metal" genre - and this band was one of the founders of that genre - but you could also classify this as hard-tinged, uptempo rock. No death grunts, screams or hyperspeed playing. That said, Cat Stevens it ain't.
"Things had started becoming increasingly desperate at Loftus Road but QPR have been handed a massive lifeline and the place has absolutely erupted. it's carnage. It's bedlam. It's 1-1."
I really like the new album by Annie, whom I did not even know about until stumbling upon a review on Pitchfork. (Note: I don't think much of the actual reviews at Pitchfork, but I appreciate the visibility they provide artists I might not know. They gave it a 7.1, if you care.)
Here's "In Heaven," first track from the album Deep Hearts.
Gosh, bassist Joey Vera has had a busy 2020, he is Fates Warning's bassist (see my superjacent post) but is also a founding member of this great hard rock band. I remember listening to Armored Saint's debut LP while I was still at uni, aeons ago. What I have heard of this new platter is pretty catchy.

Beer and Beef has made us what we are - The Prince Regent
From her new album. No gimmicks or technology whatsoever on this track, not even any singing, but still lots going on in my humble opinion.

How have I not mentioned Arlo Parks in this thread...
Can't wait for full album in late January
great shout for Arlo Parks. Thinks she's from Hammersmith; saw her at Rough Trade pre lockdown & seems a lovely kid too. when an album gets released should be very good
Catching up on the thread I see I'm not the first to give young Baxter a shout, but plenty more albums anyway to recommend from 2020, which has been one of the best years for albums in recent memory I reckon, so here goes:
RTJ4 album has to be up there:
Surprised not to see a mention for the Fontaines yet...
Or for Fiona for that matter ...
And if I was to do a top 5 for Mixmag it would probably include:
A good friend of mine who has been playing in a variety of punk bands for a few years now basically told himself he wasn't going to be the same person coming out of the pandemic as he was coming in, so he quit his job, wrote an album, and is now finding himself on a bunch of top albums of the years list. Kind of a punk-rap hybrid with a bunch of other influences.
