| non handshakes on 19:09 - Mar 7 with 1299 views | GloryHunter | Back to the OP, at my weekly 5-a-side walking football last night we were jokingly bumping elbows etc when we turned up. But at the end of the game everyone forgot and shook hands with everyone else! I suspect that will have happened after most games today. | | | |

but that doesn't explain why no panic/media coverage over thousands of cases and hundreds of deaths EVERY year and yet this, in comparison handful of cases/deaths has people stock piling loo roll!

There is no need to panic but this should be taken very seriously, Flu has been around forever and has known consequences, the new virus has the "potential" to overwhelm our systems, It looks like it has a much longer incubation period that was orgiinaly thought. China apparently have got some control now but only by instigating draconian measures that would probably cause populations to riot in western democracies

you mean the Yanks dropped something in the Yangtze ? from my limited experience Chinas lower class population over 50yo ish are a filthy unhygienic bunch of fekkers. When I go there I always have hand gel, antiseptic wipes on me.(In fact I've found half a dozen in various bags I've used Very rarely see anyone wash their hands emerging from the porcelain hole in the ground bogs in restaurants and the amount of gobbing in public places is never-ending. The younger generations are desperate to remove themselves from this ignorance . Whilst Im at it a hotel built 2 years ago and being used as a makeshift hospital has collapsed. The building of triple size Grenfall tower apartment blocks is rapid and the amount of them on an estate often 20 plus all lined up like dominoes is everywhere. Now I'm hearing a phrase Tofu Built which is common amongst Chinas social media that buildings are built with materials which may as well be tofu, so unsafe are they.

Normal flu mortality is about 1% - so that's 36% fatality rate for this? Don't think so. You still haven't explained the rationale for bulk buying toilet roll??!!!!!!! | | | | Login to get fewer ads

It's because people are getting it mixed up with Corona lager, which has been known to give you the shits.

and the reason for that? Guesswork mortality rates, exaggeration and over hype in the media andthings like the nonsensical non handshake policy used in the PL. Re that last bit - no handshakes but its OK to pick each other up as they do, hug etc after a goal and touch the ball after it has been touched by the referee, other players and the crowd - THAT'S how daft we've got!

Yep. World's gone mad. Plus I assume all the players were spitting as per usual and rolling around in it, but no risk from that of course. Northern Italy in lockdown - funny that as it's the country's economic/industrial centre, yet in the South everything is fine and dandy? Plenty more to this nonsense than meets the eye.

| non handshakes on 11:45 - Mar 9 with 809 views | johncharles | It’s worth remembering that the last flu pandemic killed 50,000,000. That’s recorded deaths. The could be double. There’ll always be dickheads panic buying but that’s not a reason to not take this seriously. | |

Isn't there a meeting on that today? Also exactly what do you suggest the public should be doing out of interest (genuine question)

Just one example, of many, Clive. Eve Standard said last week 'some countries there already' in relation to 60 -80% infection rate risk. As you know no country is even near 100th of 1% infection rate

Its a balance though isn't it. There are infectious diseases around all the time, where do you draw the line? As I have said before over 50 people in the UK die EVERY week, EVERY winter from flu - the government DOES do 'something' about that - free jabs for the over 60s, sure if they did more it would reduce further but its about balance - people have to live normal lives v risk. Making all urban roads 20 mph would save hundreds of lives EVERY year, but there is opposition to that in just a few roads in London.
| non handshakes on 18:51 - Mar 9 with 664 views | GloryHunter | By way of a bit of perspective, every year 6,500 people in the UK die by suicide. That's roughly 18 every day. Imagine if the rolling news channels had a daily ticker, and the newsreaders announced every night, "Another 18 British people killed themselves today". Would the government then announce a multi-million pound investment programme to fight depression? Just asking. | | | |

Exactly. You could do the same thing about any disease/condition that kills people, so what makes this one so special? Definitely other factors at work here.
