The only sensible thing to do, is to sort things out with a series of Tombola draws. One promotion and one relegation from each division on consecutive evenings. The Premier League Champions, European spots and relegations sorted out with draws on Friday, Saturday and Sunday evenings. Every player in the league goes in the draw for the PFA player of the year - Morecombe's left-back up against Harry Kane. They can host them on the One Show, or at 4am on the Shopping channel like the Carabo Cup draw. Get Key workers, Dion Dublin and the rest of the Homes under the Hammer gang to draw the names. If that's not a goer, for whatever reason, then each manager has a dart board sent to them and they have to play round the clock. The one who finishes using the fewest darts, wins the league, the one using the most darts finishes bottom, all the places in between determined by the number of darts used. Massive sponsor's logo on the board, sh it loads of tension, no-one can complain it's unfair, and you could televise two managers a night on prime time. That's 10 nights of bumper audiences before you even get into the football league. I watch almost no non-Fulham football on the telly, but I would definitely tune in for Chris Wilder or Steve Bruce throwing darts for the chance to win the league. Sam Allardyce on the oche, wearing a West Brom shirt, slacks and shoes, a pint of pinot grigio in one hand, arrow in the other...who doesn't want to watch that? |
This is a great idea and far more entertaining to watch than the Premier League.

Not sure two weeks achieves much. It would need to be longer which creates all sorts of problems with the calendar. Looking at it purely selfishly, life right now is pretty dull (while I’m very fortunate to not have anything like the problems to deal with many are) and even crap football in empty stadia is a bit of a distraction from it.

I have officiated on a few games in the last 9 months when restrictions allowed, but have just come off a Junior Premier League Cup Finals day on Saturday. Yes U18s and below football IS allowed, but its 8 teams, so that's at least 160 players/parents/coaches from all over the country and 10 - 15 officials, all in one place. As I'm still having to see my 85 year old Mum - shopping etc & 16 month old granddaughter (childcare) - that just seems to me a risk too far

it probably doesn't but 2 weeks with all players in a form of lockdown they would miss FA Cup 3rd round and 2 league game which doesn't cause massive fixture problems. This is probably the only chance they will get to do it without missing 3/4 games

My daughter’s women’s football is off,but it appears my grandson’s U12’s is still on.My local non league side can’t play, but Ipswich can. The whole thing is a mess.

As Dave wisely told me a while ago - looking for consistency or things to make sense is the road to despair at the moment! I think we all have to do what we think is right and hopefully that means that the majority do the right thing the majority of the time - Is that happening? Is it even realistic to expect that? Who know?!
