Just had a new front fence put up. It's treated but i'd hoped to paint it with primer and two coats of paint this weekend. But friends are saying it's too cold to do it (forecast for tomorrow is dry, sunny and 3 degrees)....are they right or can i get away with it?

One here. Best bet is plaster board over you existing ceiling. Re skim. Depending on how big your kitchen . They shouldn't charge you the earth. Good luck.
Check your insurance you may be able to claim for all the repairs, we did when both our loft tank leaked and later our hot water cylinder. All new ceilings and decorations paid for. Both gone now, combi boiler instead.
