Just finished Chariots of Fire for the first time in a long while. Cracking film.

I watched 'Le Mans 66' aka 'Ford v Ferrari' a couple of weeks ago. Damn good yarn, based on real events.

A League Of Their Own.
Senna
Rush
On Any Sunday
The Blind Side
Bull Durham
White Men Can't Jump
Eight Men Out
All good films for different reasons.

The grass is always greener.

Slap Shot made me laugh so hard. I watched it with my Dad one night one the return from the pub. Happy days. I must see it again and see if it is still as funny sober.

Another vote for closer to the edge. the bravery / stupidity is amazing.

I watched it again over Christmas. Some of it hasn't aged very well (my kids were scandalised) but I still loved it. It's got real interest too as a time capsule now after all these years; a rare sight of blue collar rust-belt America (same Pennsylvania steel-town setting as the Deer Hunter), and Paul Newman's wardrobe is fabulous, darling.

A couple of films from my yoof. Cool Runnings and The Karate Kid (Part 1 in particular - Part 2 is more about honour than sport and better not to mention Part 3)

'The Games'. 1970. Incredible film. Frank Spencer as a 1960's dairy crest milkman/ Emil Zatopek hybrid.

Also Featuring a cast of Ryan O'Neal, Charles Aznavour and a manaical Stanley Baker. It's Beautiful.

I'll also chuck in;

'Rollerball' 1975
'Marathon Man' 1976. For the Abebe Bikila connection.

Also the 'Minder' Episode . 'It's all about scoring, innit?' from 1980 featuring Karl Howman as a Frank Worthington/Robin Friday bird bandit striker, 'Danny Varrow', was a classic worth a mention.

Noooooooooo! Field of Dreams is dire! Mrs Sheen dragged me to it because she loves Kevin Costner. The couple in front of us walked out after two minutes, and we both wished we had the guts to do the same.

Slap Shot - now you're talking.

Marvellous semi true story about the Stoke City kit man is one of the most heart warming films I have ever seen and a total surprise.

Remember the Titans is worth mentioning as well.

Slapshot was a fav in the 80s which was followed by the not so good Youngblood

The Longest Yard (1974) - original Burt Reynolds version, not the Adam Sandler remake.

Seriously though, not strictly “sports films” but try;
The Dawn Wall
Into The Void (Touching the Void)
Free Solo

All true life climbing/mountaineering films but IMHO all gripping!

A mate - QPR fan- was the cameraman on touching the void. Practically the whole crew got altitude sickness filming so it was just him and the directors and actors at the end

Where do I begin!
Bend it like Beckham
Happy Gilmore
The Water Boy
Space Jam
Gregory’s Girl
Slap Shot

How about Death Race 2000?

By definition you have won the thread by topping your list with not only one of the best sporting films made but undoubtedly the only one apart from "4 Year Plan" where almost all the actual football was played by QPR players.

And we still lost the fecking final to a team from bloody Hounslow.
