In the last eleven seasons Preston have only finished once below 14th place. So I'm not convinced that they are going to impode to 21st (or 24th) place. |

About 25 years ago I was doing the sorting out for the fortnightly recycling and I realised that I just counted out 11 empty bourbon bottles!
So I cut right back.
Then, last year when I started tracking my calories on an app, I discovered that even though my daily maintenance calories was 2900, after all the real food was eaten that didn't leave much leeway for booze (which it turns out is quite fattening! Who knew?)
So now I only drink maybe once a month and I make sure that the calories for that come out of my daily carb allowance. |

I don't want to get into a debate about this, but long before doctrinal religion dramatically skewed the dynamic of early human groups they functioned perfectly well in an egalitarian fashion: sharing food, cooperative child-rearing, and defensive efforts against harsh environments.
Spirits and deities were viewed as part of nature, not as the masters. They were unpredictable or playful, rather than moral judges.
There was no priestly caste or centralised religious authority.
But as people grouped into bigger populations, and in the absence of police or legal systems, priests, chiefs and kings used "Big God" doctrinal religion to establish a ruling class, claim "authority to act" as being granted by the gods, and used the concept of "supernatural surveillance" (i.e. fear of divine wrath) to enforce their laws and their idea of morals.
In other words, religion was the beginning of inequality in society. |

You're right, such calculations don't exist.
But social projects are not entirely the domain of religious groups e.g. Prince's Trust (now called the King's Trust), Royal Foundation, Homewards etc.
And it should be up to society and elected governments to tackle social issues, not give hundreds of millions in tax relief to organisations with dubious histories. |

There would likely be a lot more savings to the economy if religions were not subsidised or given charitable status.
I object far more to that hotbed of bigotry and indoctrination. |

Switching to a ceremonial presidency (e.g. like Germany or Ireland) would save a few million a year (but that's virtually a rounding error for a £2.7 trillion economy.
(And having an executive role as President i.e. like Trump, would cost way more.)
With regards to bad behaviour, in a hereditary system with an extended family there is always the possibility of some wrong 'uns. But at least that keeps the media busy. |

Sorry, it wasn't supposed to be patronising.
Of course there are people who have legitimate reasons to use the drugs (just like my wife has to take metformin for her diabetes).
I meant that I was seriously at the stage of trying weight loss drugs, since I believed that I was already doing everything right (turns out that I as way off with my assumptions), but now I don't have to. |

After years of not being able to lose weight I got the MacroFactor app (about £65 per year) and I lost three and a half stone in a controlled and manageable way.
I'm now at 15% body fat.
And, best of all, I now know how to control my weight healthily (based on facts rather than guesses or drugs). |
