I was at Elland Road in ‘83 when he made his return. The place was buzzing and ‘90 miles an hour’ was bellowing out around the ground.
If memory serves, he came off the bench and when the ball was played to him, he took a wallop of a shot that looked more like an exorcet let loose.
Thing is; he was whacking them when the balls weighed more than a medicine ball when wet.

I think our biggest crowd was 35,353 at the end of the 73-74 season when Leeds won 1-0 as champions. It was claimed over 7,000 Leeds fans were in the ground. I believe we handed them champagne before the game and their keeper was motm for his second half saves. It was a slightly smaller crowd in 1976 but not as relaxed but the result was better.
One of the big memories of Lorimer is for his failure to score a last minute penalty against non league Wimbledon when Dickie Guy saved it rather overshadowing all the goals he scored.

The reason the crowd for our ‘championship winning game’ in ‘76 was lower than the crowd at the end of the 73-74 season was because the installation of seats in the paddock. | |

I'm too young to remember him play but I did meet him about 15 years ago whilst working in Leeds. He owned a pub in the middle of a gritty industrial estate. They made a mean steak pie and there were football stories a plenty. Sure as hell beat queueing for Greggs.
