Hopes for the next 5 years 09:33 - May 18 with 6024 viewsdmm

I suspect this question may have been discussed before - my apologies if it's been done to death.

As we look toward next season I wondered what we might hope for over the next 5 years and more? I certainly fall into the 'It's more fun on the Championship' club, but accept the arguments against that view. We're in a professional and competitive sport and must look to achieve the best outcomes we possibly can. If we stay in the Championship as a really decent footballing side, I'd be happy, but nonetheless going further than that could be very exciting too.

With that in mind, I'd hope for promotion but using it to build the squad for a few yoyo years to try and establish ourselves in the PL. I'd also hope for the vast increase in income to be used toward a new stadium and continued development of the youth programme.

I guess the next question would then be, 'What next...'. But that's perhaps for another day.

Simmo, you are right, we got a right decent club and some proper off the field guys but I just ain't into it all that type of stuff, i am football, players, managers, teams. etc. I am proud on what we do but it isn't my thing really. As far as renaming our stadium - shocking, not for me - sorry if it upsets people but thats it. This BLM and taking the knee drives me absolutely mad.

Can anyone see us moving out of LR in the next decade? The Linford Christie Stadium option looks very complicated with the land owners set up got a feeling that’s going down a blind alley. The soulless bowl out of town sounds more likely regrettably but will take years to find a suitable site and complete the build. I think we will be at LR fir at least another 10 years.

The L C stadium looks the obvious site and plenty of land to build a big stadium and thought your C.E.O said that it was that or nothing.

It's all or nothing if we want to stay in the borough. It appears there are no further alternatives that we've not already considered. A move to a site outside the borough would be very unpopular with most fans.

In 5 years’ time I’d hope and expect us to be where Brentford were prior to their new stadium in terms of stuff on the pitch: competing consistently at the top end of the Championship; scouting, attracting and developing under-rated players then selling them at a huge profit; reinvesting those funds into improving the team and balancing the books; playing attractive, attacking football.

More widely, getting the training ground up and running, making progress towards a new stadium at LCS (accepting that this may be extremely challenging), continuing our excellent community work and strengthening / maintaining the identity and professionalism we’ve built over the last few years. A huge question for me is what we do if & when MW, Les or Hoos decide to move on: it’s reasonable to assume that we might lose one or more of them in the next 5 years, and it’s absolutely critical that we replace them with someone who can continue the trajectory we’re on currently.

Getting the new stadium built and establishing ourselves in the Prem feel like 10-year goals to me. I’d like to see us making serious progress towards both in 5 years, and ultimately our financial prospects have to rely on getting at least a couple of years of PL money every decade, but I think 5 years might be ambitious.

I started to argue, and realised it was fkn pointless. It's not like you'll ever get it, so best to remain good friends!

Bare bones.

As you have highlighted you don’t just lose players you also have to accept there is every chance of losing your management staff along the way we lost Rosler Warburton and Smith (Dijkhuizen lasted just 9 games )all moved on to bigger jobs and maybe we will lose Frank in the close season.

That we sink out of the football league and our owners sell the team to the fans so we are truly a community club and not just a smaller version of the footballing giants owned by wealthy foreign citizens.

Then Sir Les and Andy with fans on the board raise us from the ashes and we become the first fan-owned team to win the Premier League (not the Premiership, that is rugby) which will admittedly take a little longer than five years.

Because I really liked them as players and people I would want Paul Parker/David Bardsley manage the team in a Clough/Taylor stylee.
