For us Gerry Francis has got to be a big shout. 25 years old, captain of his country, nearly led us to a league title and just coming into his peak years and then on England duty picks up that back injury that keeps him out bar a couple of short lived comebacks and break downs for pretty much two years. Gerry at that time was as important a player as Kevin Keegan. A couple of years later when they eventually found out the real problem was a trapped sciatic nerve and soon cured, he wasn't the same player. Yes, the team was aging slightly but I've long felt that our decline in the late 70s was largely down to that and us just not being able to adequately replace him. [Post edited 21 Sep 2021 9:19]
