Met him tonight my god he looks about 100 ! Really shocked to see him looking like that but his passion for the rss still shines through to this day. Also got a glimpse of everyone’s favourite swear box Barry Fry waddling down SAR .
I have nothing but praise for John Gregory. I know some players didn't like him but he was brilliant when I met him.
He called a health club that my now wife worked at and she recognised his voice from me listening to interviews on the website. When she got confirmation who it was and how she recognised his voice he said well we need to look after our own and gave his mobile number to her to pass on to me and told me to text him whenever I wanted tickets.
So the following week I messaged and he said he would sort it. Gave me his personal assistants mobile number too just in case. He arranged for my dad and I to park in one of the car parks close by and despite it being a match day he came to reception to meet us with our tickets. Gave us a quick tour and introduced us to Gianni and then down to the changing rooms to meet the squad. Told Danny Cullip to look after us whilst he went and did media stuff. Got the whole squads autographs. John came back and then took us upstairs to one of the bars and told the staff to look after us. We then took out seats near the directors box. I remember it was a really important game. We needed to win as we were in trouble. Remeber Dexter Blackstock fired one into the top corner for just outside the area. Anyway we won and a few days later out of the blue he messaged me asked if I enjoyed the game and if I want tickets again just message him and he will sort it. The fact it was a really important game and he had all the usual build up to the game but took about 30 minutes to make my dad and I feel special shows what sort of man he is
