| John Gregory on 22:01 - Oct 20 with 2216 views | NorthantsHoop | Superb player John Gregory, bit of a journeyman starting off at Northampton Town, Aston Villa and Brighton before Venables signed him at 27 in 1981. His career really took off at Rangers leading to a couple of England caps at the age of about 30. Loved watching him in that midfield in the early 80s on our plastic pitch. | | | |

This could be a trick question, Baz. As in he could have played against an all English XI?

He would have been if that bent bastard Clive White hadn't ruled out a perfectly good equaliser for Micklewhite...

If memory serves, it would have been an equaliser at the time. Aside of a breakaway when Archibald, possibly a slimline but early signs of being a pontificating fook, Crooks hit a post, we were murdering them in the second half. You had a feeling that if we could equalise, we might well go on to get a second. I still remember my dad's face when JG hit the crossbar. It had a sad and somewhat resigned look of: 'it ain't happening tonight son!' Incredible to think that it will be 40th anniversary next year.
