Poppy shirts 12:21 - Nov 8 with 5492 viewsstowmarketrange

I just watched the game again on Sky,and I saw that we had no poppies on our shirts.Surely it’s remembrance week rather than just 1 or 2 games? And Saturday was our closest game before November 11th.
I haven’t seen the championship goals from the other games, but were we the only club not displaying them?

Suffice to say I blame social media and its inherent 'look at me' oneupmanship...

Once upon a time it was sufficient to buy a poppy from a poppy seller and pay your respects on Remembrance Sunday.

Poll: How old is everyone on here?

I saw a tweet recently that got to the word I'd struggled to articulate about remembrance - solemnity.

Due to my family background and some of RBL's messaging in the noughties/early 10s (there was a picture of a kid holding a giant poppy with a t shirt that said "future soldier" on it emblazed in my memory), I have a lot of complicated feelings about wearing a poppy. But I will still take the time to contemplate and reflect during the silences. I've contemplated wearing a white poppy, but there's something in that that doesn't quite sit right, almost needlessly provocative weirdly, that I haven't been able to get behind.

Because ultimately for me, as you say Chef, remembrance is a solider, a veteran or a volunteer at the tube station, doing their bit with the box of poppies and a bucket. Taking the time to think about what people endured, how we treat them afterwards and how to make the world better so people don't have to experience that again.

But some people have started to treat it almost like another festive event in between bonfire night and christmas (though in fairness it's felt a bit more chilled this year). When I see models of people made of poppies or porn stars putting #lestweforget next to #cockdestroyer - I am worry about how the solemnity of remembrance is being lost.

Hopefully that makes sense - I know I can be a hot head on here sometimes, and it's a tricky subject which as I say I have complicated feeling about - I'm pretty anti-war generally, but I have a lot of close friends who've served. I hope this has come across as a nuanced view as I mean no disrespect to anyone.
