Good stuff as always Clive - had a nice giggle.

BTW, Willock wasn't rested. He got a knock in training but should be fine for WBA.

Not sure if it was two rather than one up front, or the absence of Chair and Willock, but we had no way of carrying possession up the pitch from the edge of our area, and hit it long all day, which Gray and Austin couldn't win. I thought putting on two ball-players in Dozzell and Amos for Ball and Thomas would fix it, but it only got worse. Until they went ahead, they monopolised possession from 60 minutes. It goes to show how much our short-passing game relies on understanding and habit, so introducing unfamiliar players disturbs it severely - beginning with the goalkeeper. All change again presumably on Saturday.

I don’t see Archer being a big miss. I thought he looked a real liability. The opportunity was there for both him and Thomas and neither seized it, although the latter started with good intent.
We need to keep Willock in bubble wrap until Chair’s back.

'I’ve been scared to open the curtains at mine today, fearful they might still be out there, on my back lawn, taking bloody penalties.'

Brilliant!

I said to my sister and son on the way out that it felt like two in the morning by the time we left. I think we were as relieved to be let out of the ground, as we were to win, when that final penalty was saved. Thanks so much Jordan Archer.

I thought another issue with the speed of play was how long it took Archer to get things moving. By the time he’d decided what he wanted to do with the ball they were back and set and the punt was the only option. Seny risks it a bit more but means it’s in play quicker.

In fairness to Archer he tried to everytime and just had no-one showing - Rotherham pushed 4 up around the area to press the wing-backs + centre halves, SJ and particularly Ball were not showing to take the ball, probably mindful with Chair +Willock they had no-one to move ball forward to and with no Dykes no forward running the channels (although though Gray was at least trying to do this)

If nothing else this game really showed up how this teams offensive Plan A is Dykes/Willock/Chair supported by SJ and the wing-backs and the Plan B without the above is a big step down.

Just a shout for Gray. He`s getting a lot of pelters and low ratings. There were some bad misses and and attempts saved easily enough against Rotherham, but he is at least getting into goal scoring positions, more so than both Austin and Dykes I think recently, and he has scored a few, one the seasons best at Derby. Hopefully the goals will come again and soon.

I actually went off Austin at the end of his 1st spell at the club when he was looking for a move and his 'I need it to my feet' type continual gestures to his teammates were similar to what Gray is now being criticised for.

On a lighter note, comedy moment on Saturday was when Charlie looked for another early offload and whacked it towards the corner-flag for Gray to chase, no bend or swazz into his run, just a proper whack.

It was just hard to understand how Gray's touch was so off on Saturday though. There was a point in the second half (normal time I think, who knows) when Rotherham were getting more into it but lost the ball - ok everyone is now hoping for a competent bit of attacking from us. One pass to Gray and it bounces 4 or 5 feet off him back to the opposition, heads in hands all round. He just didn't seem close to having the better of League 1 defenders in terms of pace or skill.

After that wonder goal he said all the right things so I'm not going to write him off by any means but no idea what was going on with him at the weekend. Not the only one below par admittedly.

I would send him back to Watford unless he scores a few more goals or starts to play like an experienced professional earning big money. He has been so poor thus far.

We need a better forward than Gray is showing if we want promotion this season.

I watched the game live on the worst website on planet earth and I thought their player was offside before he calmy buired it.3 more views including the Official QPR highlight package and it still looks like offside but nobody complained or checked .
Once we scored (Stevie Wonder even knew it was in ) there was multiple checks and I suspect most QPR fans had a heart in mouth moment we would get screwed again .Luckily we advanced and now can re3ach the 5th round where I still hold out hope for Liverpoor or Man City at our patch
