I may have to apologise to my 'friends' on here, who I may have criticised for not knowing the "rules" of football at times.

A lot of people got confused as they keep using the wrong term - “defender” as such discounted the goalkeeper (who is practically a defender). The FA laws of the game and even Wikipedia uses the term “opponent” and wiki specifically states “the goalkeeper counts as an opponent…..but it is not necessary that the last opponent be the goalkeeper”.
I think because they don’t really understand it or misunderstood it or never tried to understand it, they thought it “silly” rule |  |

If that rule was in place then, could the ref allow the goal?
If it was a free-kick to us they would put 11 behind the ball and those free kicks very close to the goal are usually quite difficult to score from so no, or little, advantage to us. [Post edited 13 Jan 2022 17:58]

No, can't play advantage in those situations, daft as it sounds.
Apologies! - Another ref has advised, that yes you CAN play advantage, so that goal could have stood under latest law. [Post edited 15 Jan 2022 8:46]
