| Is there no backbone anywhere anymore? on 17:48 - Jan 18 with 1129 views | R_from_afar | When I was renting a house with a couple of mates, we were sat at home one evening when there was a furious hammering on the front door. We opened it quickly and there was this teenager, perhaps 18 years old, who breathlessly told us how he had fled his house a few doors down, via a window, when some yobs turned up threatening to beat him up. We took him in for half an hour or so, to help protect him and to enable him to calm down. He was scared witless. I can't remember if we called the police or what happened next but when he felt able to leave, he thanked us and headed on his way. Shortly after that, someone smashed in the rear hatch of my mate's car, with a block of concrete, as it sat parked outside our house. | |

| Is there no backbone anywhere anymore? on 12:21 - Jan 20 with 715 views | TGRRRSSS | All the above is good reason not to get involved, but another - say you and you rugby tackle one to the ground and he hits his head he's probably going to sue you and get you done for assault and there is more than half a chance the numpties that are the OB/CPS etc are going to agree with with them let along some "liberal judge" offers them a financial reward on top. More than just getting knifed by Yoot. The reasonable force thing is and remains very weak and open to exploitation. | | | |

Some 15-20 years ago I saw two lads on bicycles snatch a phone off someone on the street. I was on my motorbike. I shouldn't have got involved but I was so incensed at the audacity these little schits think they can get away with, so I mounted the pavement and pinned one of them against a wall. He got free eventually but enough time for the police to arrive and give chase as they also picked up the guy whose phone was stolen. It did occur to me afterwards that had he banged his head hard against the wall or pavement then I could be in trouble. It's crazy that it happens this way but whatever we think of the rights & wrongs of it, that's how it is. Would be criminals know this and use all this kind of stuff to their advantage. it's almost as if the perpetrator is more protected than the victims. So what happens? We stand back. Crazy. | | | |
| Is there no backbone anywhere anymore? on 19:56 - Jan 20 with 518 views | Mick_S | Regarding standing back as in Juzzie’s post above. I’ve been delivering in a not nice part of west London for a while. A couple of weeks ago I found a front door slightly ajar when I tried to put the post through. A couple of knocks, no answer, so I tried 101 to report it. F Ickes me what a prolonged waste of time which resulted in me being asked to email the details. Not happening - spoke to a neighbour and got no help so moved on. Yesterday, same thing happened at a different address. An open door that shouldn’t have been open. Delivered the post and pulled the door closed. Again, a very dodgy area. Christ, did I get a bollocking from my experienced van driver. Apparently, the house owner could have popped out without the keys and would be very angry about not being able to get in. He’s got a point, but what do you do? It lends itself to not getting involved. | |
