RIP Motty.

Obligatory story - when I was about 9 or 10 I won a prize in a raffle at the Wembley schools 6-a-sides to attend a filming of Match of the Day. This was an absolute dream, got to play with the cameras, sit in the commentary box, have breakfast with the crew, meet the teams etc.

Unfortunately the game was Chelsea Oldham in the mid 80s so it was at shithole era Stamford Bridge, but the absolute highlight was John Motson (in full sheepskin outfit).

He couldn’t have been nicer, spent the whole day chatting to me and and my mate about football and we got to to sit next to him, awestruck, as he did the commentary.

Made a hero for life that day.
